Anybody else have this issue? I have a 2004 and the clearcoat is peeling and flaking off all around the car, primarily the hood. It has 102,000 miles and no rust anywhere. Is this a defect that is common? Coverered by warranty?

Need help.

My 05 is perfect..what color paint is your Treg?

One of my former bosses picked up a new V8 Touareg in 04. It had a major problem with clear coat peeling on the hood new. He had it covered under insurance and got it repaired. Good luck!

Strange - my 2007 with 94K has better paint than my wife's 2010 Audi A6 with 23,000. No complaints from me.

Mine is dark blue metalic.

I will try the insurance thing. I pay them $450 per month to insure everything, may as well get something out of it!
Funny - his was dark blue metallic. The peeling was around the front most part of the hood and it spread towards the middle.

I need to clarify - it was covered under warranty, not insurance. VW agreed it was an issue and they covered it. It was only a few months old.

I'm going to claim it on my insurance since I was driving thru Ohio a couple weeks ago when the stom rolled through. 80 mph winds blew half the clearcoat off and pelted the side of the car with sticks, branches and anything else you can imagine flying accross a corn field.

It also busted the passenger wiper.

My 2005 had the bad clear coat problem as well. Faded out on top and hood initially but did not peel. The color is black. The car was out of warranty by a few miles but the dealer eventually did paint the hood and top after VW customer service turned me down. Now a year later the tops of the fenders and sides are starting to go. VW customer service turned me down on fixing that. Service manager at dealer has changed so no help there anymore. Disappointed in VW not addressing obviously defective paint/workmanship at the factory.

No Surprises here.

State Farm declined the claim even though it did lose alot of clearcoat on the hood from driving through the storm in Ohio.

VW - No chance there since it is not a corrosion or rust issue.

Body shop wants $4,000 to repaint the whole car. Don't think so!

I'm probably just going to get the hood redone and have the rest of the spots redone later by sanding and blending it in.

I have a 2004, dark blue, that just starting having the same issue. The clear coat is coming off the door handles and the roof. The hood appears like it may be next. Anyone have any suggestions on how to go about getting VW to take care of this obvious defect?

I've got the same problem on my 2006 V8. No clear coat on my drivers side wheel well and now the hood is starting to peel. The dealership, Bert Smith, blamed me for repainting the car improperly. When I did some investigating, another local dealership said this was normal for cars which were damaged during shipping and reprinted at the port before being sent to the dealer. They explained that if I had brought it to them first, threw would have resprayed it, no questions asked. Since I complained all the way up to VWOA and they denied my warranty claim, the second dealership said they weren't allowed to touch it. This started before the warranty ran up and I still got nowhere.

I guess I'll have to wait for the class action...
