Hey all,

Another update on the blog - we have set off (finally) across the channel to France. The treg has a new driveshaft, and is running smoothly so far (apart from VW Battersea forgetting to connect the exhaust system.... don't ask...)

Blog can be found here.

Great update! (WTF was the VW dealer's excuse?) But glad to hear fun is being had. More pics please...

Awesome updates on the trip Benn! Glad to see you were able to make a purse out of a sow's ear. (Of course, with the kindness of strangers.)

One of these days, you'll have to post more photos of all the sights. Especially hiking in the Alps...

With all your preparations Benn, I'd have thought a new battery would have been on the list. But maybe all those accessories drew it down?...

Either way, it's great to be able to follow your amazing travels. Especially with the really interesting (read challenging) driving coming up. ;)

Hey schubie yeh it's a good question. I um'd and ah'd about it a bit before it shipped. My concern was the shipping, and the fact that it would be flat for 3 months in the bottom of a ship, and whether that would damage a nice new battery. So I put it off. And then put it off. And put it off ;-)
One of the downsides of the Treg for camping is the inability to turn off lighting. Even with the "house lights" off, they still light foot wells, puddle lights and cargo compartments. I've removed some bulbs and the next step is to remove fuses, but annoying there isn't a better solution for this.

Btw crossing Ukraine at the moment where the roads are shocking, rough Tarmac, potholes, long stretches of gravel etc. Noticed that there are a surprisingly large number of Tregs here. Equal to Landcruisers definitely, and hardly any Landies at all. Nearly all T2s.

I've driven a lot in the Ukraine. You can spend a lot of time on the wrong side of the road dodging the holes!

Do watch out for on the road repairs to broken down trucks - in my case in the outside/fast lane of a dual carriageway - I see it in reasonable so I was ok, but it was there for three days and - unlit - nights!

Hey all,

Another couple of updates from our travels:
Detour | trans vecto
The language barrier | trans vecto

Magda (my Treg) is storming along, we've done 10,500kms in just over 6 weeks, crossed 14 countries, used 1,273 litres of diesel. 1 dead battery, and I may have caused some cracks in the fuel bash "plates"... but apart from that not a beat missed.
Cheers

Hey all - haven't updated here for a bit - here are some quick links to the blog updates for those following the journey. We've now crossed Mongolia, and are turning south to enter China. Pleased to say the treg hasn't missed a beat, apart from two flat tyres and a flat battery we've now done 20,000km from London to Ulaanbaatar without a single thing going wrong (touch wood).
Cheers

What a trip you're taking and in a Touareg, no less!
Hope you're enjoying every minute of it, good and bad. Just read the article about the smashed rear window on the blog - glad you could get it repaired.

Just catching up on your travels Benn. Glad to hear you made it through the Ukraine without any more run-ins with 'the man.'

The time-lapse vid of driving along the Black Sea was cool too.

Thanks for sharing--Chris

Great stories about your trip through Russia, Kazakhstan, etc. And then the amazing trek through western Mongolia! Liked your description of it as an endless 4x4 park. Understandable how eastern Mongolia could be anticlimactic...

Good luck in China :p

As usual, great update Benn! Once I started reading it, I couldn't stop without finishing the China entries.

Sure did sound like a wildly adventurous trip to itself!...

Thanks for sharing--Chris
