I was driving to work this morning in about 6 inches of snow and have yet to test the Treg with ESP turned off. I hit the button without any noticeable difference, I then put it in park and tried disabling the ESP with no luck.

I haven't had a chance to check fuses or if the connection has dislodged over time, thought I would see if anyone else has experienced this before.

Otherwise I will have to do some dismantling when I get home from work tonight.

I think you may have to hold the button down for a few seconds. I'd try that. If that's not it I would suspect that the switch is bad or dirty (coffee or other spill) - but I don't think I would go replacing the switch without first checking the for codes. Though, I think you would get some form of "Dealer's Pockets Empty Fault: Workshop" type of message if there were a malfunction affecting ESP.

Does an orange/yellow triangle with an arrow around it appear in the dash by the RPMs when you press the ESP button?

I'd also try holding it for a couple seconds. It can get a bit dirty and hard to press with dirt and mess.

X2. I think 5 seconds is required for the magic to happen...

I was messing around in the fresh snow on the way to work today, and turned mine on and off several times, and I did not have to hold it down. One push of the button and its off, and one push and its back on. No five second rule for me??

On off on off on off no delay...

Even if you turn it off and leave it off during a drive and then shut the vehical off, it will default to on on the next restart. No way to permanently turn it of really.

Chris, just hit the button, no holding at all.
Yeah, I must have had Jack Mode on the brain...

Hey Keith, when are we gonna pick a date for Rausch?

Let me see how things go with work here in the next month and maybe we can set something up.

2012 Requires Hold to Disable ESP

I tried this on my 2012 just a day ago and it definately required a two or three second hold of the button to turn-off the Electronic Skid Prevention (ESP). I was driving at the time. Perhaps it's instantaneous if not moving.

All you should have to do is just push the button and it goes off. Been that way on all of them and can't imagine why it would change on the new ones.

Mine wouldn't do anything either. Mine would get stuck in the down position though. Tore it apart and nothing wrong with it other than the button was just to big for the hole they cut out and it would always catch. You could have a similar problem.

Tried holding the button with no luck. No lights on the dash indicating ESP was off and no difference in the driving. Used my VAG-com and it want throwing any codes.

My next step will be to remove the center console and reseat the connection on the switch.

No need to hold it. Just push it and the ESP light should come on the cluster and stay on to let you know it is turned off. If the button is doing nothing then either it is bad due to a liquid spill or just is bad.

My ESP switch no longer works due to my dog knocking coffee over and getting dirt into the switch from the gravel they use on the roads in our New Hampshire winters. I'm unable to turn it off. It was previously an instant on-off operation.
