I replaced my parking brake damper yesterday. I didnt take any pictures but those can be seen in the this TB link: http://files.mytouareg.info/* Touar...nical Components/vw.tb.46-08-03_Parking_Brake_Indicator_Remains_Illuminated.pdf.

I dont think it took me more than 5 minutes to do. There is no trimming to remove or any other parts to remove to get to the parking brake damper.
Just reach down to your parking brake with a flashlight, unlock the locking clip from either side of the old damper using a flat head screwdriver. The damper can then easily be removed.
With the new damper in your hand, unlock the locking clip on both sides and install in the same orientation as the old one and press the locking clips in place with your thumb.
Works like a charm now, no need to nudge the parking brake with my left foot for the parking brake light to go out.

Yes, I belive it's the same for all models. Check out the TB link above, 1st page. It covers Touareg, Touareg2 (2004 - 2009), all engine codes and all VINs.

Hope this helps.

The E brake has been nagging at me for months as well and even though I am VERY GOOD:D at the left foot shoe lift, my wife was driving T-regasaurus recently and I got a panicked call about the brake warning when she started to drive. She WAS NOT amused when I told her to pull handle and lift with left foot:mad:. Something about sandals and a fresh pedicure;). So while I was at the dealership ordering $400. or so of 'maintenance item's' I sprung for the E Brake lift shock as well. He had like 15 or 20 of them on the shelf so I suspect it's a common issue:rolleyes:.

I had my leatherman and a flashlight in the console so I R&R'd it before I even left the lot. Less than 2 minutes and that included 'testing' old one (very weak and worn out) and the new one (could barely compress it!) One thing I might mention about the install, the screwdriver should be kind of small as the flat 'relief' area under the retaining clip is quite small. Also no adjustment/tweeking is necessary on the new part at all, that style of clip will slide/snap over the pivot ball, just not slide off unless the clip is released. That will save 2 minutes of fiddling with the clips:D

Now I have to retrain my left foot, even after a week it is still sneaking over there (unprompted, just pure habit now:oops:) and doing the lift even after a week+ of driving with the new shock.

My close-by dealer wants $64 dollars for this part! Employee pricing (cost + 15%) is just under 33, thats f-ing ridiculous! Anybody know a better place to get it from?

They are available and in stock at Barloworld Botany Sydney quoted $68 bills, going to pick one up as my pedal is definately limp.If anyone else Australia wide wants one im more than happy to get them and pass them on, share the love as they say.

Fitted mine last night , what a difference , the old one had dropped its fluid and could be depressed with 2 fingers , the new one is tough as nails. I found it easy to attach the top socket first and could just depress the strut enough to engage the lower socket.

Tried to place order. Not successful - Screen kept appearing after all billing/address data saying "missing required info". All required info had been filled in. Bad vendor website!

I tried to order one about a month ago (delivered to Australia) and was unable to as well. Their billing page was unlike any other website. Still secure but a bit odd. At $5 plus $25 shipping it was still $50 cheaper than the dealer's price of $80!

just wanted to give an update...

the gas shock for the PB arrived 2 days ago very timely & was in perfect working order. I almost lost a finger compressing it with my hands to feel the difference but that is neither here nor there.

I will be ordering more parts from them in the future as.
