Hi all, while I am doing the inspection in dealer and they told me that the exhaustic is leaking and need to change it, it's a two pieces exhaustic pipe and cost $2.5k for the part and plus additional tax & labor fee, it's pretty expensive and beyond my expectation.
I didn't find out anything leak from the pipe and the only thing I found is that when I drive around 70-80mph, the Touareg starts to shake, like the wheel shakes and then over 85 it comes back normal. It doesn't happen every time I accelarate to 80...but most....
One more is the sound, maybe it's V6 so it's a little bit loud, but I am not sure if this is the case or all Touareg V6 is LOUD. :D

Question:
1. How do we know if exhaustic pipe leaks and need to change a new one?
2. could change the catalyst converter solve the issue?

thanks aaaa

I don't think the V6's are that loud. I would take it to an indy exhaust shop and see what they find, and what their quote is. it is almost guaranteed to be cheaper than the dealer. If there is a leak, changing a cat won't fix the leak.

Thanks LocoLobo, I am not sure if the pipe leaks or not. where could I find " indy exhaust shop" what's that stand for?!

an independent (indy) exhaust shop..not a dealer. They should be able to give you a second opinion and would likely be cheaper.

Cool, thanks!
The only concern is that the indy exhaust shop won't take care of Touareg well as dealer does, since Germany cars's design are way more complicate than Japaness cars, so ... any tips for going to those indy shops?

Not really...Perhaps try and find one that specializes in european cars....ask them for some references and see what people say about them. Really up to you. If you feel more comfortable going to dealer that is fine too, just gives you a choice at least.

Cool man, thanks a lot! I will shoot for Monro or Meniken first. :D

So the dealer said I need to replace cat converter, and the price is $2k5+, while I am looking up online and see that there are so many different types of cat converter, some are rare ones, some are front ones, and even driver side ones, and the price is different too. For exhaustic leaks, what kind of cat converter we need to replacE?! any suggestions? or have any pictures to show?! I am having a local garage to do it for me, I need to know exactly what i am replacing with. :p thanks
