Ever since the temperature dropped about 25 degrees in DC over the last few weeks, my 2009 TDI with 32,000 miles has been making strange noises. The car starts up with away in the morning without a problem, but once I start moving, I hear some funky things that just started this past week or two once it dropped from 80 degrees down to about 50.
- When doing a cold start in the morning and turning out of the driveway, I can hear an audible "rubbing" sound when turning the wheel left or right. It's not a grinding or crunching, but it's a rubbing produced when turning the wheel. You can hear the rubbing, as well as feel it in the steering wheel. This problem usually goes away after 15-20 min after the engine has warmed up. However, I don't remember having this rubbing sound LAST winter.
- Also, there is an audible groaning or whining I can hear when the car is idling or moving at slow speeds (5 MPH). This problem is different than the rubbing I described above, which usually goes away after a few minutes. The groaning changes in pulse when I turn the wheel, and as far as I can tell gets quieter, but never goes away, even after the car has warmed up. Turn your speakers up and see if you can hear what I'm talking about:

Any ideas?
