I noticed an oily liquid pooling under the driver side and to the front of the engine. It was a very thin oil and had little color or smell. I was in a parking garage, so I doubt I could have smelled much anyway and with all the plastic covering the bottom, who knows where the source is. There are a ton of oil leaks stories here, but none sound like my situation. I have dropped the car off at the dealership.

Hopefully I'll find out soon-enough what the problem is, but if anyone has any ideas, I would like to hear them.

Yes sounds familiar. Mine was the water pump. Failed just last week. Be sure to check the coolant level before you drive to far!

Update your info to show you have a 2010 TDI so we know. Once you get your water pump replaced go to the thread on the issue and post the last 5 digits of your VIN and location. We are not sure what we are doing with the info yet, just checking to see how close the builds are on these that have gone out.

I know that certain folks at VW NA do follow this distinguished Club, so hopefully they will be taking notes on this. One could also contact VW NA and ask whether important info could be forwarded or simply the ability to point them to a particular thread.

Sure seems very early for something to fail like that, I only have 7800 miles on it.
Yours is now the lowest mileage one. Mine was at 8900. It is not a mileage based thing, but all have turned out so far to have a bad seal from the factory. We are thinking the bad seals are showing them selves since it started to get colder again and it is just giving up now for some odd reason.

Yeti, you think as Moderator you or others could find a way to forward this to VW NA or at least make them aware of this?

I actually have someone looking into it now. We have some friends here on the boards that have a few contacts at VWoA. We will see what happens. Honestly since they have all been under warranty I don't know what else they could do since they are picking up the tab for repair as well as rental/loaner vehicals. Only big issue seen so far is not really having stock on hand to repair it quickly. I think my repair was a luck thing in that it was so quick. There just happened to be a pump on someones shelf somewhere and my dealer got it quickly.

That's GREAT. No I meant from the QAR (though this is clearly a CAM error - meaning from the CAD-CAM part) and to issue a recall... as they (VW) should know when the problem was first diagnosed and with the serial numbers they can track.

x2, I figured if we can get the info needed maybe someone from VW will look at it from their end and decide how they want to handle it. But as said before every vehical has been under warranty and we have had few cases where they went out on vehicals ROW. So it is not just a NA issue. Just more here that belong to the forum and report it.

And VWNA should pay us to debug their vehicles as most of the dealers are...

But sometimes things slip through the cracks. Did you know that the "multiple key" alert was a European thing that was programmed into their cars only and for only about 2 years. Well guess what, my 08 has that great feature. Now if I bring two keys in, as was the case when I had to drive to Anchorage to have them reprogrammed I benefited from the alert signal for 400 miles. No, I was NOT going to throw one key out of the window. However it could be useful if you think you've left one set of keys in the car...

Funny, that must just be an 08 thing since my 2010 says it once when I start the car up and it then disappears after a bit. Only happens when the wife is with me and her key is in her purse.

Well according to any research I've managed to do on it, it was an 07 and 08 European option only. But I venture to guess that since my 08 was a very low serial number 507, it may have initially been earmarked for Europe. Alas I didn't get the heated steering wheel or paddles
