I have an '06 V10 that I bought new. Warranty expires March 1. I have less than 40k currently.

Extended warranty costs a minimum of $2400 plus a deductible every time.

My question: if you own a '06 or later V10 and have over 50k miles, have you had problems that make it worth spending this much for a warranty.

Please post whether or not you have had problems, and if so, what you had fixed, and, if you know, the approximate cost to fix it.

Thanks!!!

I don't own a V10, but if you loose a turbo that is an expensive repair since the motor has to be dropped to do it. So I guess if you have money set aside for stuff like that you will be fine. If not you may want to consider the extended warranty. There are a couple other items that if they go bad necesitate dropping the motor to repair.

IMO its worth it on the V10, turbo failures, a power steering replacement, even an O2 sensor replacement all require engine removal. 25-30 hours of shop time in labor + the cost of replacement parts means that your $2400 warranty would pay for itself the first time you'd need to call on it.

Yeah, you're asking about an '06 and later but the things that can fail are not just specific to those years:confused:. My extended plan has already paid out $54XX in repairs and cost $22XX. I still have 45K+ more miles on it so in my case at least, it was a good buy. Mines an '04 V10 BTW...

Thanks. I used to have an '04 V10 and I understand they are statistically more trouble prone.

But I am trying to see if the '06 and later have also had major issues based on the experience of folks on this board.

I am sure the later models are more stable. As the model progresses, adjustments are made.

Be sure to shop around for your service contract. I went with the "VW Real Driver" coverage. 6 years, 72k additional miles, no deductible, platinum coverage for $2550 out the door. I think that $400 per year is more than reasonable.

Your price will depend on your current mileage.

I heard that the price goes up considerably after 35k miles.

I love my Geico plan. For $69, every 6 months, I pay for a bumper to bumper warranty with a $200 deductable that covers 7 yrs/100,000 miles. This way I am not paying up-front for a plan....just in case I sell or trade in the auto. I have this plan for both my Passat and my Treg.

Agree the '04s are trouble prone, but it doesn't take much to go through a $2500 repair on a V10.
