Having a discussion with a friend and he believes that the Australian Tregs were first supplied with Plastic panels back in the 7L series.. My comment was that I doubted it because a magnet will still adhere to the front and rear guards as well as the door panels of my MY 17 V6TDi ( 7P6). But having said that tapping all the panels except the bonnet sounds like plastic.
Need clarification Please -- When were our Aussie Touareg's first equipped with "plastic" panels

Agree, the 7L came with polycarbonate guards and aluminium hood, the 7P and later got both in metal.

I’m not sure what you are pointing out here, but both quarter panels on the front of the 7L from 2004 were plastic… I had a pedestrian walk out into traffic and bounce off my right front fender years ago! Her elbow broke the corner of the windshield from spinning around and impacting, but the quarter was pristine and undamaged. Thankfully, she walked away without medical attention, even though her elbow smashed my windshield corner!
