Well almost - waiting on delivery. So what is the first thing I should do?
The vehicle is a 2016 R-Line.
The item is from eBay so I hope it is OK.

Facepalm yourselfSo what is the first thing I should do?
You dodged a bullet. Ebay ones are clones and will cause missing files in different modules. I found out for myself when I went the cheapo route.Well the ebayer said it won't suit my vehicle and has just refunded my money. So no VCDS.
But this route doesn't allow you access to tech support as you are not the registered owner. If on a budget, you can typically find a used 3 vin model with 1-2 vins left for under $100 shipped on eBay, or any of the major VW forums.
In almost 20yrs, I've never needed "tech support" either. All depends on your comfort level and capacity. I own a 2nd hand dongle and have never needed to rely on tech support, etc..... forums and reading has supplied all the info I've required. Self learning and experimenting with stuff also plays a huge role on what you are able to do with it.
Where are you located ?Thanks, I didn’t realise there were some more hoops to go through. The local dealer does not have the 3 VIN or 10 VIN available - sold out. Oh well it’s for the good of the car, a bit like polish.
In the Deep South - Melbourne. But I have just purchased one on eBay from the US with 2 VINS left. The car delivery has been delayed and is due on Friday with the HEX V2 due 12th July.Where are you located ?
Hi Forty you just need a data cable to run it the manufacturer will specify the rating. Ask the seller of your vcds to send you a photo of the serial number and check with Ross Tech they will confirm vins and if it's genuine. In the Deep South - Melbourne. The Touareg appears to have the euro type round plug for the trailer connection with a Redarc controller.
It took a while to find the small round control knob as it is mounted in the rear cargo area on the right hand side. Smart!? Nope. I hope it’s not too hard to run to dash.
great adviceHi Forty you just need a data cable to run it the manufacturer will specify the rating. Ask the seller of your vcds to send you a photo of the serial number and check with Ross Tech they will confirm vins and if it's genuine.
