If you haven't used constant power to ACC then a simple reset using the left upper pin hole should do the trick. Or you can go into the setup button and select reset in one of the menu items (can't remember the exact name of it off hand). This should reset all your radio presets, button tones on touch etc to factory.

However if you are like me on my 05 egg. I have to unplug the power to the unit completely as my ACC is connected to constant power supply. I alway have to manually turn off my HU before leaving the car. That is the only way so far I have found to get my autoswitching backup camera to come on and the steering wheel volume control to work again.

This seem to happen to me when I 'forget' to turn the HU off after turning the ignition off. Looks like about 30min to an hour screws up my CANBus or whatever. I forgot to turn off the HU today (left it in bluetooth mode) and came back in 8 hours. When I started the car the units screen turned off. Got it back on again but had lost the above.

People can anyone tell me how can I make a full restart of Maisun HEad unit? I have issue with camera so I have to do one restart. Any other solutions?

Camera dead

I tried to restart it and to plug out the electricity, nothing. Camera wont work, i will go tomorrow to car electrician to check the voltage of current which goes to camera, maybe it need relay , but then why it work in the start. I really don know. :S The light for license plate on camera work fine.

If you want it only for the stereo, I'd suggest to use the blue Ant wire.
If you want it for something else, the Black wire at the seat heater switch is ACC.

Maisun Mystery Miracles

After using the units for a couple of weeks, and still not convinced about keeping it, it threw me another surprise.

Went camping over the weekend, and my daughter's videoplayer car charger drained the battery completely overnight (so much for the claim that the Treg has protection against that...). Both the car and the Maisun were back to the factory settings.

After a jump start and a short drive to juice up the battery, a few things had changed, to my surprise:
- the steering wheel volume controls work again.
- the back lighting of the head unit control knobs started working (never did before), and I do not have the pink illum wire hooked up.
- the unit now recognizes the CD changer (but not the CDs), which it did not before.

Thought I should share :)

Seems to be a little different results for different folks. My steering wheel volume stays until I leave the unit turned on for 'x' minutes/hours after the ignition is turned off. Otherwise it seems to work fine. When it does go out I pull the fuse for a few seconds then everything is working again (except I have to re-tune that radio stations and some settings). I haven't used the GPS much as yet so not sure how that will mix things up.

Just an update : my unit works OK (other than some hissing and my not so perfect radio reception - which was the same with the factory unit, some sort of antenna problem ). The mods are working fine and because Acc gets disco'd every time I open the door, I guess it resets the unit, not loosing any settings and it's not freezing either.

What do you notice on the unit when you say it resets but doesn't loose it settings?

Hi
Im from Perth in Western Australia, just installed one of these units in my 2009 Touareg, i had just the original radio cd player with no reversing camera, want to install the camera that we bought with the unit, is the wiring already at the tailgate or do you have to run an av cable and connect power wiring for camera to reversing light to power unit when reversing, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards mark

Maisun unit for sale

Decided to go back to my factory nav unit. Miss the rear view camera too much. My Maisun unit is up for sale, slightly used, but pristine. ACC wire mod applied, otherwise original. Comes with the iGo nav software (US). Also comes with the GPS antenna adapter, in case you have the OEM GPS antenna built into your Treg already.

If interested, send me a PM. Asking $500, or OBO. (prefer Paypal).

I switched to RNS510 from maisun, in doing so i had to switch pin 2+3 for some mild static.

A) Have anyone tried to see if that would fix issues we are having with maisun unit ?

b) Looking for experienced implementers in making the OEM backup camera work on the RNS510 on 08 v10.

Maybe because we're "down-under", the Maisun unit works better here? I've been more than happy with the features and performance and value. Not a single issue for complaint from me. I also hooked up a new iPhone 3GS and no problem with pairing. Not hooked up the rear-camera option as I use the mirrors and parking sensors. Works well for me without a camera. As I see it guys: 1) if you had, like me, the basic OEM head-deck, then the Maisun unit is great value!!! 2)If you had the OEM RNS510 and replaced it with the Maisun, they maybe you lost features. As I said when I got mine, I asked the questions to check compatibility, got the item and installed it, got the features over the OEM and at a decent price. It's all worked out good so far.

I never experienced any of these probs. I wonder if the Nth. American variant has a slightly different wiring loom/connector set?

When using the GPS the screen seems to freeze up after about a few minutes. When pressing the screen for any other function within the gps it resets and works again, for a few minutes. any idea's? Using TomTom.

Hi Guys!
I just installed my long awaited HU (Witson W2-9200V) and I must say thanks to everyone for the help ,as I researched the installation here and found alot of helpful hints...I have been trying to figure out what formats of DVD the players use and had some eratic behaviour - it only played 1 of my DVD's, VCD's and AVI's, play fine but upon copying a vcd (data) disc with only music videos, it played once but then ejected the disc on second time round. (Bad Disc). I then discovered that a few of the videos were DAT.files. Hereafter it won't display the navigation map screen with "Navigation software not found" displayed...I can however still access the Navigation interface for settings etc. otherwise a great product. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Well I am totally done with this POS. I should have know better. Never, ever did I buy something from there what actually worked the way it should.

-Loosing steering wheel function every few days;
-same for CDC;
-hissing noise that makes me go bonkers;
-gps keeps freezing up (original TomTom)
-some times the volume of the "gps side" has been take over by the "radio side"
-does not fit, sticking out a few mil and dos not catch the lockers;
-radio reception getting worse every day. Don't ask why;
-media card interface looks like an Commodore 64 screen;
-drained battery twice as it does not turn of when turning of car (unless you want to loose all your settings)
-absolutely NO SUPPORT AT ALL from mfg. They reply mail with standard non-solutions;
-claiming compatibility that's not even close to be true;
-nobody can understand a word I am saying when using the bluetooth with BBerry.
-non-accurate screen. Getting a phone number in there while driving is a task;
-Bluetooth takes about an hour to load received/missed calls and address book form the bberry.
- DVD player is very good, but the glare on the screen makes it impossible to watch during the day.

Believe me, I did try but it's just not working for me. Maybe if a guy is good at electronics and got some patience it might work for them. For me, the plug-and-play guy, not really.

While vag-com may seem like magic, it can only talk to components that are designed to talk thru the car's canbus system and are programmable. I don't believe that these "foreign head units" utilize canbus or are programmable.

Of course, I could be wrong and the magical vag-com might work with them.

Not sure if it helps rrental but for me disconnecting ACC from alway on 12volts seems to a stabilized my HU. I thought I would loose all my settings but don't. I can 'crash' the backup camera signal if I the unit is booting and I shift into reverse at the same time (done that once so far), so I don't get a video signal. However unlike when I had ACC connected (I had to pull the fuse from the HU to get backup signal and volume control working again), I get the camera signal back again the next time I move into reverse. I'm not loosing steering wheel volume control either. Still only been testing in this mode of a couple of weeks however. :)

More updates: I think I figured out why the radio is not great - the Maisun doesn't send 12 V to the antenna preamp like the OEM unit does. So either buy a dual fakra with power wire adapter ( 35$ on fleabay) or mod the unit internally ( fairly easy also).
I think the ACC mod does more harm than good as it keeps the WinCE part running all the time which will cause the unit to freeze sooner or later.
As for the GPS, I reversed to the basic original iGo interface as this wince board lacks memory big time. The newer units ( bought one for my Golf - comes with WinCE 6 and 128 MB memory, much better).
Overall, with the lights and the door mod it's been pretty OK, as soon as I fix the antenna power, radio should work OK also.
Will post an easy solution to get output levels down for those with amps soon.

Today is a great day. I fixed my head unit(MT-6509).Before the unit can power up, but can't operate any thing. I can heard the radio sound, and bluetooth can pair my cellphone, and press the key can heard "Di" sound, so I thought the hardware amplifier IC, screen, volume control, etc... were ok. And I checked the IC (HTC4052, 4558, LM7805, LM7809...) voltage were ok. So I think only the control function was down. For the control function have 2 part: CPU and the firmware software, for the firmware I can do nothing, only check the hardware CPU. I use the magnifier check around the cpu. It's so great, I found a tiny chip between 2 pin of the cpu, clean it right away and power up the unit, everything come back !!! Finally found the tiny chip come from the right side removal key grind the bracket, because I took down and installed the unit a few times. I think this experience may be can help somebody, if you have same as problem.

Just wanted to report that since removing ACC 12v+ power my HU had been rock solid. No issues at all. When I turn the key off the unit powers off but hey that's fine by me - my beach tailgate party days are behind me anyway :)
