Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if someone has already done this, but I could not find a sticky link.
How do forum members feel about having a thread to locate forum members in different areas with VAG-COM and are willing to help out club members. If you have a VAG-COM and is prepared and willing to help out fellow members, just build a list of locations here in Oz.
I live in Boyne Island Central Queensland and at the moment have HEX + CAN with unlimited VINS.
I am looking to upgrade soon to HEX V2 and unlimited VINS in the future.

Not quite on topic. Seeking advice re VAG-COM & I am waiting on a response from local supplier.
I would appreciate advice from a member with experience in it's use.
It has saved me a fortune, I couldn't imagine owning any VW without one unless you have deep pockets for dealers to fix everything whenever there is a hiccup.
What do you need to know?

The one I use is a windows laptop-based model, they do it for other platforms I believe.
To get a grasp of the basics there is a brilliant DEMO/Instruction guide on the website HERE--you click on the tabs (Select Control Module) and it takes you through the basics of reading fault codes and reading modules. It also shows you how to do a full scan (Autoscan).
To grow familiar with VCDS you will use the WIKI that will give you common procedures (Priming fuel, DPF regen, minor tweaks to basic systems. As time goes you will start tinkering with the long coding

where changes ordinarily inaccessible will tailor your ownership. Depending on the year of the Touareg of course. As time has passed more and more features have been added to make the car more attractive.

VCDS nor any other diagnosis system will contain all the wiring diagrams and parts manuals. However they are on the internet. The full manual for the 7P is on here in nicely separated PDF files. The 7L has some available. But if you go to Erwin.com (make sure you go to the European one-- it's about $9-13 for 1hr access. So in that hour download all the pages of every job you might need to do, or common fault fix procedures (7L prop shaft etc). Erwin is VW's own workshop manual online. Then for parts there is ETKA online which has assembly drawings of every single nut, bolt, panel, glass, hose clip, pipe and tooling for the car listed.

@Laggyband

A database/collective of VCDS users etc would be easy to set up just like the referred repairers database.

Just let me know if this suits

A database would be better than a post here as when someone is stuck on the road, trawling an entire thread looking for a location close to you would be hard whereas a spreadsheet would be easy to navigate.

Ok...I'll make a start on it.

The info required will be Name....Mobile Number....Metropolitan area/suburb.... Type of VCDS available (eg VCDS Hex-Net, Hex-V2 etc) and what series the dongle is appropriate for. *Note the CR model will not accept the dongle suited for 7L/7P as far as I know. @evaddirb can you advise what the dongle from Ross-Tech is for the CR edition?

** For those who have a VIN Limited VCDS dongle I would suggest that you don't be involved in this, as each vehicle the dongle is used in will reduce the number of vehicles available to scan**

Excellent---helpers around Oz would be a very useful network. Currently, I have a HEX+CAN Rev. B interface with unlimited VINs. When I buy my new one I'll let you know.
Located Boyne Island Central Queensland.

I also have a HEX+CAN Rev. B interface with unlimited VINs.

Location is Mid North Coast (between Forster and Port Macquarie) NSW

Thanks guys. This is a great idea. If I may ask the question though. Can you still buy the VCDS with unlimited VIN's?? Or is it only the limited version now. I have been toying with the idea of buying one for years now and it would be great to have. Cheers

Yes if you buy hex net with (I think 6) vins then upgrade to unlimited vins for a fee.

Snerlo
Yes you can
I purchased an unlimited Hex-net from these guys as they did a better deal after talking to them than I could do with limited and exchange rates , postage etc
