Hi Laurie,

Corroded wiring harness splices under the seats is a common cause of your symptoms. The splices are crimped together at the factory and corrode and/or come apart over tine causing intermittent electrical issues and battery drain.

Am in the middle of this repair on my T1 as we speak so will have a full write up in a week or so.
Below is a video of a Porsche Technician doing the repair on a Cayenne:

Hi, I'm Brian in Nottingham. I've had a 2010 mk 1 Touareg Altitude, 2012 mk2 SE, 2015 R line 262, and have just taken delivery of a new 2020 R line in Moonlight blue, and I love it. I'm having the front end ppf'd and the whole car ceramic coated at the end of this month by a local detailing shop. I'm looking forward to seeing it completed. The range has changed immensely over the years technologically, but remains a cracking motor to drive. I love 'em!!

You have a Generation 3 car with a factory fitted towbar?

Right, i am hoping that you can answer a very important question, please!

But it means you need to go out to the car with your mobile, lift the bonnet and, with a bit of a fiddle, take a photo of the parts label on the coolant fan.

With a bit of luck when you look at the photo you will be able to see what wattage the fan is.

Please then cone back and let me know.

Thank you.

Hi TommiT, I tried to look at the parts label on the fan, but the car is in the garage and the label is so far down that I was bothered i'd drop my phone. I don't have a cradle for taking selfies, but if I can borrow one I'll have another go at some point. Sorry, it's not the easiest thing to get to.

Thank you for trying. It will be a big help if you are able to find out the wattage.

On the T3 the cars were supposed to come with an 850w fan if they had a factory fitted towbar but many didn't and it was 1,000 quid to upgrade from the standard 600 watt fan to the 850w.

With the arrival of the Gen 3/T5 we are trying to find out if VW has upgraded the fan on the factory fit towbar cars.

I've just had another try in daylight and it's an Audi unit made by Bosch. I have an extending mirror with led's on and it's 850w. on the unit.I couldn't get my phone down that far, and as I've only had the car 4 weeks I'm gone as far as I'm prepared to. Hope that helps.

Join the UK site too if you haven't done so.

Do read this thread before you collect the car and don't forget to reset the gearbox.

Just had Mr Beans thread pop up on my email account so thought I'd say Hi I've been a member for a few years since I bought my R50 although not sure for how much longer as I'm thinking of selling it No problems I just want a change. I do still absolutely love it though as there is nothing like that surge of Torque you get from the V10 and Ok the fuel consumption could be better but you dont get anything for nothing
