Hmm, a potential issue but I am not certain.

Went out to start Treg this morning and she would not turn over. Fairly new battery was down around 10%.

We all know there are lots of things that can cause phantom drain in the Touareg. My concern here is that the HU may not be able to send a "power off" signal to the digital amp (unique to the CD based Navi Treg's from 04). The amp could thus be draining the battery.

We do know the HU is not fully compatible with the amp, thus necessitating need to send signal to aux. The HU also has a power signal wire for a traditional amp not used in our case . Thus, I do not see how HU is sending power signal to amp.

A few thoughts ..

1. Is there any way to confirm if amp is switching on and off?

2. The amp does have its own fuse (right side, passenger box). Could a relay be rigged so that the HU cuts or starts power at that connection?

3. As we are feeding amp through aux, is the signal just doing a passthrough to the 4 primary speakers, amplified only by the HU? If so, could the digital amp be disconnected from power?

Could be entirely unrelated, I just don't know. I do know that digital amp is a curse!

Lots of questions there :)
I haven’t noticed any issues with mine.
You can check wether the HU or the amp is draining the battery by removing the key and checking voltage on the fuses used by the HU and the amp. I think both devices are powered off when you remove the key. Let’s say the amp was there and has been managed by the system so no issues. It powers off when you remove the key. Now the new comer is the HU. How does it play with the ignition system? When you remove the key the UH just powers of the screen and somewhat goes to sleep. It does not power off completely. If you leave the Treg off for 24 hours the HU should power off or at least power off when battery voltage reaches a certain level. Maybe your unit does not play good there, meaning when you remove the key it does not go to sleep as it should and when battery is down to a low level it does not power off either.
Solutions:
Try a firmware update.
Try to find if it still draws power when you remove the key and for how long.
Install an intelligent dc dc power supply (dcdc-usb-200) to take care of any power off issues. You give it 12v. When you turn the key it power up any device. When you remove the key it powers off any device. When battery reaches a critical level it cuts power even to itself.
Note: you know the HU has powered off completely when you see android starting from scratch when you put the key into ignition. If you see the launcher the second you turn the key into ignition you know the HU has been sleeping.
I can help with the dcdc-usb-200 setup if needed. Price of the device is 59$ on https://mini-box.com

Thanks. It does go to sleep when you remove the key. I'll have to notice if after 24 hrs it powers fully off.

On a positive note, I installed the ground loop isolator (PAC SNI-1) and any hum has been completely eliminated.

I am seriously considering swapping amp for the analog, re-pinning the wires, and not dealing with the analog amp while getting all 11 speakers functioning.

Hi there and thanks to you all for your input through this lengthy thread. A very interesting upgrade it looks like. I have a 2009 R50 but I am an Apple user through and through. Some may groan but that’s what it is. I note that this unit is an Android unit so I figure that I can’t do screen mirror but from reading this that wont actually matter. So long as I can pair up the iPhone with Bluetooth then call management should all be ok (hopefully steering wheel controls still work) and the Head Unit self manages the navigation duties (Waze/Google Maps/etc). I don’t suppose there is any way to get mirroring from an iPhone onto it. Is there anything that I will lose in doing this swap from the standard issue RNS510 HU?

With the seat heater buttons becoming a sold sate affair, do they default to off when the car is turned off (unlike the factory analogue spin wheels)?

Pete.

Anybody having a suggestion on giving feedback to the Aerial Diversity Control Module when using an Android set?

I'm thinking that the new battery may be the issue, probably my own doing.

When I replaced the differential, I had her on the lift and accidentally left the ignition on for a few days. That completely depleted the battery. While I coaxed it back to life with the charger, AGM batteries do not like being depleted.

I put a load tester on there immediately after fully charging. SOH at 16% and cca around 300 of rated 900.

Will replace battery tomorrow. Hopefully all good after that. I'll keep an eye on it. It's been a few years since I replaced the dreaded Kessy module.

I did deplete the varta agm on mine once. Dash stayed on after I closed the car for a mysterious reason I'm still trying to understand. Used my mini jumper (the powerbank style stuff) which i always in the trunk. then drove the treg. I did put it on the cteck charger later on as it sits in th garage all the time. no issues. battery is still rock solid. I really think that now that you have an "alien" device in the system you should invest in a jump starter like this.

I bought a SUAOKI. So do your research before buying if you decide to get one.

I do keep a Closer Jump and Carry in the vehicle. Given its limited use, I have certainly dealt with discharged battery issues over the years. The last discharge, prior to install of new HU, was all the way down to 0 volts which I believe did damage to the battery. Every time you discharge that deep you run the risk of never being able to bring the bank back

Stupid question. I do have a multimeter. How do I test at fuse box whether amp is drawing power when ignition is off. I have identified the 30 amp fuse.

Thanks.

Thanks. I used this method instead which is easier given the battery under seat.

Good news is that amp appears to be turning off. I also realized I am getting sound from more than the 4 speakers (i.e the tweeters in the door). More points for these units!!!

New battery is in so I'll keep an eye on that over next week. Old one definitely cooked. Just a side note, you can't do a proper load test at terminals under hood. Here are results from the new battery itself.
