Hello all,

What sort of mileage/economy are V10 owners getting from a single tank?

The MFD is showing a projected range of 595 (approx 1000 km) miles left after doing about 100 miles (160 km) already.

I don't expect to see anywhere near that kind of distance per tank but its looking promising so far compared with previous tanks of about 400 miles when the two ANTI-SHUDDER valves were wotking against each other. Lol

Has anyone modified their Treg to improve fuel economy? Eco-friendly tyres, weight reduction, lighter weight gear/engine oil or engine mods to squeeze out a couple more mpg?

Am running Amsoil 75W140 in the front/rear diffs and the transfer case. Am considering a lighter weight gear oil and a spare set of alloys with more efficient tyres exclusively for motorway use for the summer months. Can always swap over to the ATs in the winter or for a dirty weekend.

That's great. If you post a picture the doubters will have to believe you.

Are there any mods or changes to your Treg to improve economy?

I achieved this tesult with General AT2 tyres.
Yeah I have deleted the EGRs all 4 cats straight piped the rear muffler fitted K+N air filters and have a Malone tune also I fitted a shift improver kit to the valve body

I thought that the correct diff oil is 75/90.

I'm not sure about the transfer box as I've always recommended that people buy the correct stuff in the 850 ml bottle from their dealer.

Someone did have a thread on here where they were doing all sorts of things to try and maximise their mpg but I've not seen it for a while.

I get a range of between about 450 to 550 miles per tank (if I ran it till dry) depending on where and how fast I'm driving. Last trip to Colorado I averaged about 21 MPG at 75-80 MPH (minus the small towns).

I recently went to Scotland in mine, which is a 4.5 hour drive and several hundred miles. Going all motorway going up the Treg averaged 31.7 mpg (UK gallon being 4.54 litres) according to the MFD. It used just under half a tank.

Coming back, we had to take a cross country route for the first hour to avoid problems at Glasgow so that lowered the return journeys economy to just below 30 mpg. Bizarrely, despite the less efficient route and the MFD suggesting the same, the fuel gauge showed the return leg used only just over a quarter tank of diesel. Which is really good considering she's got General AT off road tyres on.

Hi vanster,

I hear you. My long term economy is 22.8 mpg as half of my daily commute time in in the city.

For this journey I set the cruise at 60 mph which is 57 mph actual and have recently used a special concoction of seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil to clean all ten injectors.

It used just over 1/2 tank going and 3/8 of a tank on its return over an almost identical route.

The tyres (General Grabber 2 AT) kind of let the side down though and am looking to source some motorway friendly tyres for my next long journey to see if I can squeeze 35 mpg out of her.

This is my 2nd Treg, the first ( an 07) I bought on ebay from a guy in Colorado. It had a Malone device and when I drove it to California it got around 25mpg. Sadly the car was junk and it had a bad water pump ( that took a while to figure out) and the seller knew it. eBay gave me $5k to fix it but in the mean time I found a perfect 07 and I bought it and sold the other car. With the Malone I could not (T1) to pass CA smog.

Vanster,

Sounds like you landed on your feet with the 2nd one and the ebay payout?

The is my first and last Treg and likely my last VW too. Will be going Japanese with my next purchase due to a culmination of VW issues I've encountered over the years.

The V10 Treg is lovely to drive but it requires too much tlc to maintain it, for my liking, is unnecessarily difficult for too many diy projects and is a potentially bottomless money pit.
