Hi all,
I am new to the forum and are in need of some help. I purchased a 2004 Touareg V10 tdi from an online auction and took delivery today. It is a basket case to say the least. Oil in the coolant, oil in the charge pipe And back pressure through the oil cap. This is my only the second diesel vehicle but not my first Touareg, previously owned the V8 model and currently also own a cayenne S. I would love some advice on what may be going on and where to start. any help is good help. Best regards

Welcome to the forum. I don’t know much about the v10 engine but I know you need an obd scanner to start with. Do you have one? What does it say?
V10 owners will be here soon. Don’t lose hope :)

Hey I scanned the ecu only code that popped up is 18253- memory of steering electronics (J527)

from what I read online the oil in coolant is potentially due to a failed seal on the waterpump. I’ve order the complete pump with seals and are prepared todo the job, which isn’t that bad.

Good news !
Not a bad deal after all.
There is a bunch of stuff to check before you hit the road with the Treg.
The scanner is gonna help a lot.

Definitely gives me a starting point and I am Grateful to the support I will get from the forum. I will post updates once the pump comes in.

Hi, I had similar issue starting to occur in my R5 which was being monitored, the oil cooler which is a little heat exchanger between the oil and coolant had started to go rotten inside. Had this replaced and no issues since.

Hmm I’ll look into this as well. Thanks!

Has anyone ever had the CEL for code 18253

Welcome

Oil in the charge pipe - COULD be because of a bad turbo. Pull the charge piping and check shaft-play on both turbos. There should be pretty much none detected by hand.

Crankcase pressure - relatively normal for a turbodiesel - I wouldn't concern over that just yet.

Mileage on the motor?

Definitely not high mileage yet. Pull charge piping and check turbo shaft play for starters. Also let us know what you find out w/ the new water pump.

Good luck with your purchase, hope you get to enjoy the V10.
I would budget for engine out once, and carry out all the works already posted somewhere here on CT.
Once done you should get years out of it.

Definitely I picked the truck up for $700 so I’m willing to invest. Will keep the forum posted.

If you don't have vagcom definitely pick that up too

While waiting for my waterpump I decided to swap the tandem pump on the passenger side due to a suspected leak. When removing the intake i noticed a blocking plate. I don’t think it should be here and for the life of me I cannot think why anyone would put it. Thoughts?
