new maps

hi guys,

when/how are your maps updated for rns510, do you get it done when you are servicing the vehicle? our 15k is approaching, if so does anyone know approx costs? brissie has some major infrastrructure projects that have come on line since our purchase september 2009.

Had my system updated back in January Some thing to keep in mind the dealer updated my maps on a new unit which i had installed in october09.
All music on hard drive vanished ( not happy with that) no cost while servicing car just took a while ( like overnight) up graded map system. Have since discovered some problem as can not recognise some older suburbs. It is booked in to go back.

check your firmware version Brent - pressing and holding the setup button long enough you should be in the service menu where you find all this info.
After the firmware update you got 11** you wont lose any music from hereon. Future updates donot delete music or maps.

Hey, according to the guys on the VWWatercooled forum in this thread the new V3 maps are still being tested. When they are released, you will have to pay for the update - it's not free. Apparently it's in the order of A$800 to A$1200 for the new maps! #-o

There is a rumour that when it gets released, anyone that buys an RNS510 equipped VW should get the V3 maps disc with their vehicle, and that if you borrow their disc and put it in your unit, it'll be updated. I don't own an RNS510, so this is pure hear-say from me, and you will need to make sure you aren't breaking any rules doing that.

Tried holding setup button It only opens radio Mode with am FM and Dab Think it is on last item. It the unit to be on any special setting ( map navigation).

Hi Brent
If you can see DAB you have the old firmware. I have a update disc if you want to use.
(BTW - Warranty claim of $ 18,500 authorised 2day, so parts are once again ordered)

VW Australia sent me back to the rental co yesterday to exchange the Mitsubishi for an Audi A4. I noticed the rental paperwork return date is one month from now !!

you need the latest firmware then, which you can download and burn an ISO disc.

Goes back next week VW spent 3 hours on friday trying to fix it some times come up with "no route recommendation for this Destination" then shuts down back to map. Finds the place alright but will not process it. So ignoring have to run a tom-Tom in car as back up.

I had the same problem "No route recomm.............." whenever the route involved going off a mapped road. Upgrading to firmware 2xxx, solved the problem.

Good news VW dealer claims new disc is in and have installed it in my car yippy it works no more route can not be recognised can get rid of Tom Tom

I bought "V3" on ebay last week and have loaded. To be quite honest I see very little difference.
