Sorry that was a H6/H7/H8 or an H9.

There is a U-Tube video that shows how to access the battery and remove/replace it.

Thanks for that. I think the OP's description on the process is close enough to my '11 to help.
I was wondering the correct size for my year Treg. After researching the OEM battery specs I found out the dimensions are the same as an H9 battery.

Be careful - one of the videos shows the guy removing the seat instead of just tipping it backwards and removal is NOT required on the T1 and T2.

Removal MIGHT be needed on the T3 and T4 but not always.

I read that thread with the link you provided. Are you NoobyT there also? I also took note of post #72. Would have been gr8 if the poster provided a pic of the bolts but I'll give 'em a look over. I thought I also read not to disconnect the wiring as you'll wind up with an airbag light on the dash after you've put everything back together.

Yes, you're right about the airbag light if you disconnect the under seat plug and you'll then need a code reader like VCDS to clear the code.

Whilst the light is on some of the airbag system may not work in an accident.

I've got VCDS so clearing the code won't be a problem. It's odd that VW's TSB on changing the battery makes no mention of getting a code after replacing the battery.

OK NoobyT I'm gonna pick your brain a bit if you don't mind, as you seem to have knowledge on this subject and as an Electronic/Mechanical Tech of 34 yrs. I always like learning more.

I settled on an Autocraft (made by Johnson Controls) H9-AGM battery. It has a 950CCA and 105AH rating. The dimensions of this battery matched up with the dimensions of the OEM battery. There is no BEM sticker on this battery. In using VCDS I see I have no module 61, and in module 19 there's no option to do coding for the new battery.

Do I need to worry about coding for my '11 Treg LUX? I don't think it has a battery energy management system or am I wrong? Thanks.

These were written perfectly in my book. I still haven't gotten mine fixed as don't know whats wrong. I was told on here to get a new battery....thats next. After reading this, I am not so intimidated. Thank you!!
Been a while since I posted in this thread. I wound up checking out and responding in the thread below for my '11.
The job is relatively easy. Just make sure you have the right size triple square for the job first. I wound up picking up a small set with various sizes. Also make sure the bit is fully seated in the head before trying to remove or tighten so you don't strip it out.
What year Treg do you have?

Thread >>> T3 battery replacement

I just installed a new DieHard battery in my T2 08 V8 Touareg. Everything went well but a couple notes. If you remember to remove the plastic rail covers off the back side of the seat, you only need to remove the front 2 seat bolts. the back 2 bolts are attached to a pivot point that allows the seat to be tilted back. Also, I attached a battery charge to the charge points under the hood to keep power to the system while changing the battery. I had it on the trickle charge of 2 amps just to be safe. Well, It didn't seem to help. I still got an EBS error (which went away after driving a few feet), and stranger yet, the clock reset to midnight. It's like it wasn't getting any power for the charger. Oh well, All is well and I also recommend leaving yourself a note the date of the battery swap, cause otherwise, you're gonna have to go through all of this again just to find the battery date!!!

Just want to thank all the folks in this thread and the original poster for the great step by step instructions. Installed a new battery today in my 2015 V6 Lux. The dealer wanted $950 and out the door I spent $320 as I needed a few tools. Couldn’t have done it without this thread. 🙏

Isn’t that offensive, $950 to install a new battery???

And that's why I do everything myself, unless under warranty.
That does seem very high even for a dealer.

Dealerships are insane w/pricing.
Mine wanted $225 for the battery and 3 hours shop time @ $160/hr. Not as high as your quote but that was 6 years ago.
