Hi Guys

Hope this post finds everyone fit and well ?

It's that time ... new struts. Lots of great DIY vids on the subject, so I'll have a crack at it.

My question is, are the genuine VW parts the go here ... or is their a better aftermarket option for aussie buyers ?

Many thanks

Steve

Rockauto has the cheapest according to my research. $6 for the glass shocks, $55 for the hatch shocks.

Have you got the most essential item for this task ready?

The luber.

Thanks Guys

Hi John .... ahhh ... I dont have the rear window option ... so didn't event think about it. The whole tailgate struts is what I need.

Hi Nooby ... what is this "most essential item" you speak of, my friend ???

Cheers

Steve

Make sure you get the correct struts. There are different ones for the power vs manual tailgates. I don't know what your options, if any, are in your region.

If you search the other tailgate strut threads, you will eventually find the "luber" joke somewhere....

You have a 2008?

Then the glass in your tailgate should open.

It wasn't an option as far as I am aware, it was a standard feature that was regrettably dropped when the later T3/ Generation 2 cars arrived.

Look at the rear wash wiper mounting - the sort of black triangular thing, slip your forefinger behind it and on the back below the wiper shaft is a small rubber tit.

Press and pull upwards . . .

You won't be the first person to have missed this function! One guy only found it the day he sold his car when the new buyer surprised him by pressing the hidden tit!

Well ... I'll be buggered !!! :D

Bloody thing doesn't stay up either .... do I need to replace those struts as well ?

they're cheap enough, and since you're in there anyway...sure.

Thank you for your very kind offer but I'm unlikely to accept!

I'd love to have seen your face as you fingered your tit!!

And, yes, replace those struts too at the same time.
