Turned 225k miles. Not much new vs. the 200k mile report.

Transmission flares (slips) on the 4-->5 upshift, always. The amount of slip is increased with increased throttle pedal.

Sometimes it gets stuck in 8th gear when decelerating from highway speeds, without using the brakes. I encounter this when approaching a highway off ramp, and the brakes are not used to slow from 70mph to approximately 30mph. In such a case, when the vehicle slows to the appropriate speed, the transmission shifts with a clunk from 8-->3 and is stuck in 3rd gear until stopping the vehicle, shifting into park, then key off/key removed/key insert/key on. Normal function resumes.

I asked the VW dealer to change the transmission oil about a year ago, and they recommended not doing it, because they said it could create unintended problems.

Original factory shocks, need replacing. Driver's door lock button doesn't work, but that failed many years ago.

All else is OK. Air conditioning might need recharging. Sirius radio loses its mind on a regular basis, but I chalk that up to Sirius, not the radio or VW. Navigation map is grossly out of date for secondary roads due to widespread road reconstruction and rerouting in the United States over the past 5-10 years.

Still achieves 30-33mpg on the highway with one person at approximately 70-75mph. Tows a 3500lb boat beautifully.

It's been a journey, and I still really like the vehicle.

The ATF should be changed every 60-80K, sooner if towing something heavy for a lot of the time.

Try a gearbox reset:

Turn the ignition on, but do NOT start the car.

Press the accelerator pedal firmly to the floor and hold it there for a full 10 seconds.

Release the pedal, turn the ignition off and remove the key.

This may help your gear changes.

Wow. You have some incredible, for a 2011, miles but, am giving me some awesome news for how well the engine is lasting/working, even with over 200,000 miles. Thanks so much for sharing and I do hope that the x-mission just keeps on going and going, and going some more.

Great to hear about the longevity except for the trans.

I'd try a trans reset as suggested above, and also a fluid flush.

But at the mileage your at this could cause some stuff to become dislodged causing even worse results until flushed again.

I'm in the maintenance camp of 50k if towing or 75k if not for trans flushes.

Could the unintended problems be that they don't know how to do an oil change?

Anything is possible LOL.

I don't know if they still go by the lubed for life story or not, but that's probably because if the trans dies it's almost too expensive to put another one in so the car is not disposed of.

Today I am reminded of another transmission failure mode.

The torque converter lockup clutch releases (fails) when using cruise control and the vehicle is climbing an incline which would require downshifting one gear to maintain speed. When the lockup clutch releases (fails), rpm flares and rises to a higher leve, which is the indication the torque converter is in the torque path.

No amount of fiddling will correct the problem, other than stopping the vehicle, then doing the key off/remove key/insert key/key on procedure. This cures the problem until the next time.

The problem never occurs when climbing a similar incline at the same speed and same vehicle load, without cruise control.

i have a 2015 aprilia caponord with 84,000 miles. it would be more but i've been on my other bike for the last 31,000 miles this year. some people just love their vehicles. my 08 t2 has just 72,000 miles. i do love my t2 though. it's just hard to split lanes in it.
