Dude... just buy a new 2008 V10 if you are going to be that picky... there are still a few available. With that list of requirements I am guessing price is no object.. so just shell out the US$60K and get a new one with 5 miles on it. Otherwise... good luck! My 08 only had 14K miles on it but it was the color (int and ext) i wanted with the options i wanted... so i JUMPED on it. Was the car perfect? No... needed new tires, pulled a little to the right (very slightly but i am picky), the wheels had a little curb rash... but i was able to deal and fix all those things. V10's are special and they are rare.. and you can't buy a 2010.... so figure out what you want and start searching. It took me 3 months to find my V10 (and its still the only 08 with white/sienna that i have seen.) I know some guys have search a lot longer than i did to find the V10 that met there needs. BTW.. you might have to travel to get your V10.. i live in Seattle and found mine in Boston.

Anyway... good luck with your hunt. My suggestion is to check cars.com, autotrader, and ebay every day (and i mean EVERY day.)... and when you find what you want then jump on it as fast as you can. You can also have a dealer watch the auctions for a V10 that meets your needs.. but again... prepare to wait.

Gregtay,

Thank you for the advice. I have read a lot of your posts.

I have been looking and talking and in the end not dealing on any Touareg, yet. I don't tend to make "price is no object" impulsive decisions - it’s just not in me. For me, it is all about perceived value where perceived value equals perceived quality (of product or service) divided by price. That is, I feel I made a good deal and do not end up suffering cognitive dissonance. I have been checking the sites you mentioned with OCD like fervour on and off for months. Because of the volatility in the CAD/USD exchange rate over the last year, value has been very challenging. A 25% exchange rate premium is a large hurdle rate for a V10 while waiting to see if Canadians might also get air suspension on the Exceline. I assure you I have been listening/watching on all channels

May I ask why you would suggest I spend $60k on a new (not titled) 2008 V10 when you claim to have spent $44-45k? Is 14k miles worth $15k? According to VW 1 mile is worth $.15 USD. I am not trying to be snarky, this is exactly the reason I have been looking for as long as I have. Where is fair market value for my money?

I agree with you that the V10 is different than the V6, but that is only to people that care. I would suggest some might argue that the V6 is better because it is less excessive, easier to work on (that is from what I understand one does not need to drop the engine to work on things), gets better gas mileage, and with Adblue is believed better for the environment. I would also agree V10s are rare but then again so are the buyers which describes an illiquid market with wide bid/offer spreads.

Rampant planned obsolescence including feature and design changes to sophisticated electronics ensure our modern vehicles become worth-less tomorrow in real terms. Doesn’t anyone ever wonder why a plastic rear bumper (including sonar) that integrates nicely into the design of the vehicle is superior to the good old metal bumpers that could withstand a decent beating?

I may sound subdued, but despite the paper reviews about maintenance and repairs I want a Touareg TDi. I have looked the Grand Cherokee Diesel but the overall features of that vehicle do not outweigh the quality and build.

Thanks again, Gregtay

Just curious, have you considered trying a V6 TDI without the air suspension. I admit, I was apprehensive about going from my V8 with air ride to the V6 highline without, however, I really don't seem to notice it as much as I thought. They modified the suspension from the original steelie I had in my 04 enough that it seems to have smoothed things out enough for me. Then again, my 04 didn't have the sport suspension so perhaps that onto itself is the difference. I realize that it's a moot point if you are a serious off roader, then of course hunt for a V10 with air ride. However if you are like many of us out there who don't off road, and use it mainly to tow or go to the cottage, the V6 TDI is more than adequate, and the gas mileage is better than I could have ever anticipated. Price wise, you can pick up a 2010 with full ride, nav included, for under 60K. If that is out of budget range, hunt around for a 2009. There are some dealers here who still have them on the lot with 2010's sitting there too.

Best of luck in your hunt. In the end, you know what you want, but the V6 may be suitable to your needs.

Cheers

I think my point was that if the V10 you are looking for must meet all of the above requriements (things like "brakes no less then 25% gone, proof of alightment, etc.) then you would be better off spending the extra money and getting exactly what you want with no worries. Do i think "new" is worth the extra cash? No... that is why i picked mine up for 44Kand dealt with things like needing new tires, an alignment, and the basic wear and tear you would expect in 14K miles (although I will say my Touareg is in showroom condition (perfect paint, perfect interior) with no signs of use.) I think it's great that you want a V10.. they are truely amazing... i just think you might need to pick a year range, color, and price plus the "i'd like to to be in excellent condition" and leave it at that. Remember these were $70-80K new.. so likely they were all taken care of. Yes.. a few people trash their $70K car... but that's not the norm. This is my advice because i want to see you driving a V10 sooner than later... plus every month that goes by they get older and more difficult to find.

So... stick with the fundimentals.. but don't worry about the stuff that is easy to fix. I'd rather find the perfect car that needs new tires, a new windshield, brakes and an alignment and then negotiate those things off the price. And none of those items indicate neglect... Touaregs eat tires and brakes and we know they are difficult to align. Plus... anyone can take a rock in the windshiield (which is exactly what happened to my Touareg last week... it cracked within an hour of the hit and grew to 8" before the end of the day. I get new glass this week... it's just the sort of thing that happends.)

Gregtay's advice sounds logical...I just picked up an '04 V10, if I like it I may sell both it and the V8 and get the newest V10 I can get my hands on!

Thank you all,

Perspective; that is one of the reasons I posted my wish list in the first place.

06TREGV8, I will go and drive another V6 TDi.

Gregtay, appreciate your comments especially regarding the general care of these units. Living in Calgary, the city uses a combination of salt and gravel (let's be honest they're bb pellets) so I am too familiar with the windshield replacements.

nickm, You move fast my friend. Congratulations on your ’04 V10. Personally I’ve let the paper propaganda get the better of me and don’t really have interest in an ’04. I look forward to your future posts. Hopefully between now and the weekend the CAD/USD exchange rate moves in your favour and pays for your return gas.

I know I'm the dumb tourist here by why the heck does Alberta use the bb pellets on the road? Every vehicle out there looks terrible thanks to the winter road rash!!

USD/CAD has been good lately...at par for friday afternoon would be nice!...I owned an '04 (a V6) which had all the problems that '04s are known for. Maybe I've glamorized the past or I've forgotten, but here I go into another '04.

Perhaps gravel is cheaper than salt? Perhaps it's a western red neck thing to pepper the vehicle behind you?!? Or perhaps it the fact that they don't clear the roads very well and hope the gravel will in some way give people a chance?!?

Regarding the exchange rate, in preparation of a relatively significant USD puchase, I reverse hedged (or rather speculated) CAD/USD when it was around .8 with expectations of a move back towards par.

Good move...I'm guessing oil prices will keep CAD closer to par than at .8....

I have an '06 V10TDi, Black/Anthracite that I will be selling. Just under 40Kmi. Still under original warrantee. It's close to needing new tires, though. I'm in Southern California.

Sorry, I want to stay with a 07/08 but the 08 would be my preference. Good luck in your sale.

It might help you to have your signature or profile updated with where you are located.

Preference to have “In-Service Date” before March 20, 2007 to avoid Canadian Excise Tax on Fuel Inefficient Vehicles or original mulroney with 17/22 mileage listed.
FYI- It's Monroney.
Most people may have no idea what it means, although they do know what "window sticker" means.

Hello again all,

Just a note I my search is over. My deal is is done. I am officially waiting on transportation. If anyone else would like to use this listing or reply to it, feel free.

FMV, you may ask? Stay tuned as I plan to do a write up of my journey after everything settles.

Jwest, that is very interesting regarding "monroney". I swear I looked up mulroney and besides seeing a lot of links on one of Canada's PMs, there was also info on a "mulroney stickers".

Cheers all and Merry Christmas!
