Hi folks,

sorry for the double post, but I don't know how many regulars check in on the country specific forum. Just wondering if anyone can confirm/deny whether the air suspension option will be made available to 2010 v6 TDIs in Canada? I talked to a dealer yesterday and they are pretty sure we aren't getting it. Given general dealer confusion around options I figured it can't hurt to check in here.
It would also be worth asking whether anyone has experience bringing/sending a US spec 'reg up to Canada?

thanks
I.

I haven't looked into option availability on the '10s...ask you dealer for the latest order sheet.

As for bringing a Treg cross border, its easy. Buy it outright, pay 6.1% duty, pay GST/PST/HST or whatever applies in your province, pay $250 for RIV registration and $100 for A/C tax, Pay $2000 for an instrument cluster that displays in km/h (the '08+ US model are all in MPH only, no km/h markers). Go to riv.ca and follow the steps, as long as your paperwork is in order its actually pretty easy.

Thanks Nick,

$2k to replace the instrument cluster sounds wildly excessive given that this is just markings - perhaps someone sells gauge faces that could be swapped in? Anyone?
Do any US dealers sell to Canadians? does the warranty transfer?

The answer to your question about air suspension being an available option for 2010 in Canada is no. It's not available, and it's not even on the order sheets.

As for the warranty, there is an excellent question. What I do know is that before I bought my 2006 V8, we looked at importing a 2006 V10 from the US. When I made some quick enquiries as to the warranty back then, I was told that due to the way the warranties are administered in Canada vs the US, that if I did need warranty work done I would have to get it done at an American dealership in order for it to be covered by VWoA seeing as the car came from a US dealership. That was then, I'm not sure about now.

Perhaps someone else here in Canada has tried it and is more informed than me. This was back in 06.

As far as I'm aware warranties are cross border...many border-town dealerships serve both US/Canadian customers on opposite sides of the border.

Re: the guages...the guages are not simple guage faces, the instrument cluster controls a number of functions and that's why it costs what it does. In the old days you were able to get away with simple decals stuck on the plastic covering guages...not so sure this would fly anymore. Check with RIV to see what is acceptable.

In all honesty with current exchange rate, duty, and financing deals- buying south of the border is not worth it unless you are looking for something that just isn't available here (aka an '06+ V10)...but its worth checking out...here is a link I use when pricing out vehicles south of the border:
