Hello Friends,

I'm looking to buy an '04 to '06 Touareg and was looking for some general feedback. Does anyone own any of these years and what are you comments?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Danny

Go with an 06 if you can find one with what you want for options. All of the 04's will be out of warranty and 05's will be approaching the samething. These are not vehicals you really want with no warranty unless you are fine with cash when things go wrong. My 04 has been pretty flawless thus far and I am second owner on it. But it is soon out of warranty and I will be looking to get a newer one before it runs out.

thanks Yeti. I found an '04 with bumper-to-bumper until Sept '10 with 70kms for $24,000. I also found an '06 with no warranty with 80kms for $25,900. They are both V8 with Navi and the '04 has air suspension.

What do you think?

Unless it's a V10 I wouldn't pay that kinda scratch for an '04. I've seen '05 V8's with air suspension and Nav for under $20k in US Dollars. Since you mention kilometers I'll assume you're not in the US though, so I don't know what the exchange rate is to your part of the world.

probably canadian dollars?

I your case I would pick the 04.
have the VW pull history, do your homework on this forum and if it is all done go for it
Price depnds on where you live so research that too

My '05 V8 has been great so far. I'm the second owner. Just over 40,000 miles. I did buy an extended warranty, so far I've never used it.

So I'm deciding between an '06 V8 with Navi, no air suspension and 83,000 kilometres for $25,900 and no warranty or an '05 V6 no navi and 83,000 kilometres for $27,900 CAD with 2 yr bumper-to-bumper warranty from the dealer. I can buy just the warranty from the dealer for $4,000 CAD.

Any opinions?

I have the Nav system and like it, but new after market systems are as good or better than what VW had in 05-06. I found the V6 gas engine a little slow. I like my V8.

The V6 is not that bad and I live at altitude. I think the V6 I have would have ran circles around what I originally traded in on it which was an 01 Lincoln Navigator. Most complain about the lack of power of the V6 and they live at sealevel. Mine impresses me at altitude and would love to see what it does at sealevel.

I've owned both the 2005 Toureg and now the 2009 Touareg 2 and never had any problem with either vehicle. A pleasure to own and pleasure to drive. As with all German cars, after the 3 year warranty expires, you carry a higher risk in terms of maintenance outflows....

Good and not so good

Just bought an 06. Since May have had to replace ignition coils (hot item), alternator and battery, and the drive shaft. Dealer has been good so far, but we arwe seriously evaluating unloading this one for another ora different car altogether. When it is running though, it is one of the best true sport utes out there.

I had a 2005 V8 (Leased New) from Aug 05 to Aug 08. Absolutely loved that vehicle and am considering another one. In 3 years and 30,000 miles, the only problem was a bad headlight.

I am easy on brakes and never had them replaced. I needed to replace my Pirelli Scorpions at 29,000 miles.

My only issue was MPG at 12-14 mpg per tank. That is why I am highly considering a V10 TDI or maybe V6 TDI.
