The owners manual says you can start the truck without the key by pushing a button on the dash as long as the remote is in your pocket. Was this standard equipment?

As soon as I have this truck fully serviced and sorted out I will definately have to look into the keyless start system. Can you use the existing wood trim plate and just make the hole for the switch? I see in your picture of the back side, the mounting point for the switch is there but covered by the wood.
Not so easy
The place for the button is there, but not only is it covered by wood, it has a solid metal cast backing. I don't know how you would cut out the hole and not damage the wood. I even bought a new panel just to learn on and after taking a good long look at it, I gave up ... I have the keyless aftermarket system, but never put it in. I've got to find some way to get the hole cut correctly. Believe me, it's a lot harder than it appears.
