I have an 04 V8 with close to 23,000 miles on it. I definitely will be driving this car for atleast another 5 years. Right now the car is 100% out of warranty. I have read that some people have had problems with the 04 treg. Anyways....what do you think?

Question is: Why DON'T you have an extended warranty?

I've told this story many times here, but for you benefit....

I bought the second 04 here in Lubbock, Vin 2200. I planned to drive it t 50k then trade fror a new one just to protect myself against later mileage problems than might pop up on the new model. (like carrier bearings)

When I got to 48k, went to my dealer to buy a late model 06, but we could not find one that had all I wanted like rear diff. So I had to wait a few months and order an 07 set up like I wanted. This put me over the 50k, so I bought an extended warranty for 75k for about $1100. Subsequently, I had 2 repairs for well over the $1100 and all I paid was the $100 deductible twice. Money in the bank, right?

The topper....when my 07 came in with 54k on the 04, I cancelled the extended warranty and they pro-rated me $900 back.

Simply, I would not drive a Touareg that is over 50k (36k on the 09's) without an extended warranty. They are just too expensive to repair.

In fact, it won't be long til I shop for a new extended warranty on the 07.

You are just betting against the house if you don't get one IMHO.

IMO: Get it, this car has enough technology in it that any major repair, or few minor electrical components will cost over $1000+ easy! Therefore getting an additional
protection for 75K + miles additionally, will be a peace of mind!

W just had an extended warranty claim for a replacement generator to the tune of $2100 plus 1 days of rental car. Previously a failed drivers door locking handle and radio amplifier to the tune of $1800 plus rental car. I was out the $100 each time.

Like Rick says, I wouldn't have a Touareg with out one.

Unfortunately, my '04 has too many miles (86500) to get a VW-Real Driver extended warranty. Anyone have luck with other 3rd party providers? Other than that I bought a workshop manual... I have a car lift and lot of tools for working on vintage carss. But the electronic thingys on the Touareg scare the heck out of me.
