Hi..
I have 04 Touareg. Having nightmare with this car from last 2 months. FAN under the Hood is Running for atleast 15 mins after the engine shut off. Took my veh to dealer, he checked and said everything is Fine. On Dec 16th, my Car battery was dead. Dealer said that i have to Replace the Fan which will solve problem. Spent $800 and replaced it. With in 2 days, i got the same problem of Fan running under Hood. Dealer said thati have to replace 2ndary Valve. Which i did by spending $180. After 2 days i have the same problem. dealer said everying is normal. After 2 days my Car Battery was dead again. Dealer replaced BATTER by charging $280.
and he checked for 2 days and confirmed that there is no Problem w.r.t the Fan. As soon as i took my vehicle to Home, had the same Problem of Fan Runing under the Hood. AM VEXED WITH THIS VEHICLE. FROM LAST 2 MONTHS I SPENT $1300 AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM OF RUNNING THE FAN UNDER THE HOOD.
suggest me if i can proceed legally on this Dealership ? or the solution my car problem.. I would certaily look here to get some help from my friends

Try a search on here, or other recent threads about the fans staying on. It is sometimes as simple as a coolant temp sensor that has gone bad.

Also, try another dealer. It sounds like yours is a bunch of money-grubbing never-do-wells.

I would be kicking and screaming that you spent all that money and still have the problem. They should be cutting you some kind of deal, since they haven't really "diagnosed" anything, they've just been throwing parts at the problem and charging you for them! You are no better off now then you were in the beginning, and are out a lot of money. I'd be having a long discussion with the service manager. Don't be crude and rude, but I'd insist for some cash back, and the eventual repair at at least a discounted rate. Like I said though, keep the attitude in check, don't go in screaming and cussing. Be stern, but calm. Be professional, not gangster.

Good luck,
Matt

The dealer is responsible for fixing a problem and if they are charging you for parts and labor for fixes that do not truly fix your problem than they are liable. You took your Touareg in for a fix that is common in a lot of cars, and they should be able to fix your problem, and if they have not than it is their fault they did not properly diagnose the problem.

I can't believe they'd have the audacity to say "take it to another dealership." That's a load, big time. Although I'd agree, judging by your experience this dealership is horrendous.

I'd go down there and talk face to face with the general manager and service manager of the dealership. Tell them exactly what has transpired, how much you've spent, and that you still have the problem.

If chatting with them doesn't get you anywhere, I'd say it's time for a Better Business Bureau letter, with two copies, one each addressed to the service manager and general manager via Certified mail. Thus, they can't deny receiving it. You may also want to involve VW of America, although I don't know what they'd do for you, since you're out of warranty.

Good luck.

I also agree that if service is basically saying that they don't know what they are doing, that I would look for another dealer when future VW dealer service is necessary or desirable, but I wouldn't close the book on this dealership yet since you spent all of this time and money and still have the same problem.

You may want to talk to the general manager, bring all of your service receipts from this issue with you, and be open with him/her and let them know why you came to their VW service dept for VW service and that you believe that they have the resources to fix your problem and that you have spent hard earned money and feel that the service dept. is putting you in a position of having to look for legal recourse because of the finances and not correcting the cause of the problem that you came in with.

In addition to BBB, if they are a member of AAA contact them also. I would consider contacting my State's Attorney General's Consumer Protection office for legal advice and possibly some direct assistance in getting this rectified or getting your money back.

Talk to the service manager and/or general manager and if they can't help then to another dealership. I've had lots of electrical problems starting from day 1 with my wifes 2004 V8 bought new and the dealership we bought it from was horrible, after the first 2 jobs. They told us to go to another shop because we were complaining too much and also VW said the same. Luckily we found another one but it was an extra 20 minute drive. We experienced many problems since then but one day gear slippage accelerating and at cruising speeds, I thought oh no Tranny? When I was able to take the service mgr on a ride he thought the same, VW told the dealership to change several parts before okay'g the tranny. After we got a new tranny, presto! all electric problems gone and also the slippage. We got some other new engine parts too but what a nightmare that was... But thank god we went to another dealership for the other work and service but now they went out of business, how sad and we miss them......

THanks for your Support Guys... Today morning I took my Vehicle to Old Dealer as iam having the same problem today. Finally Service Mgr saw the Fan running after the engine shut off and Engine is making Lot of Sound (Similar to FLIGHT TAKE OFF SOUNT)once i started.and he is simply saying that Car computer wants Fan to run for a while and its not a PROBLEM. W.r.T the Hude noise, he checked defrost and everything seems normal, he simply said COMPUTER makes it to Make Noice.
After long Discussion with him and General Mgr, they are saying that they cant do any thing unless computer showd any Fault Codes. They asked me to bring my Car on MONDAY. I informed VW usa as well on this problem. Even they talk to serivice manager. Dealer said that they replaced Fan and battery as their computer shown fault codes and not showing anyting w.r.t the fan running.
THESE GUYS COUdLNT UNDERSTAND THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A PROBLEM AFTER SEEING THE FAN RUNNING FOR A WHILE.
THEY LOST THE BASIC POINT THAT " NO CUSTOMER WILL COME TO DEALERSHIP AND WASTE HIS MONEY AND TIME PRETEDING THAT HE HAS PROBLEM "
I completely vexed with their service. the only reason am behind them is, i spent $1500 and am having the same problem with NEW RADIATOR FAN and BATTERY.
Am not really sure whether they have replaced fan and battery for real problem.

Hi Detouareg,

As you can see from my post, I am not positive about the solution, but the fan staying on does seem to be an issue with a sensor that controls it. There are two sensors G62, and G83 or maybe G82?. I would recommend taking your car to another location that can check it out, and ask them to check the sensors, and also have a VAG-COM or OBDII scan performed on your cars computer, so that they can diagnose what may be occurring.

As far as legal action, it is hard to say, but since you said this is a dealer, I would ask to speak with the General Manager and explain the situation, if you are able to have the car repaired at another location, make sure to get all work completed documented, and keep all receipts, part number listings, diagnostic codes, etc... If you can present this information to the dealer and show them that the repairs were able to be made on a different part and it solved the problem, they should recognize a faulty diagnose and hopefully refund you. You can also call the national office of the car manufacture and see if they may be able to assist.

As another consideration, you may want to call the Better Business Bureau, or you local state government as they often have "Consumer Protection Programs" that may be able to assist you.

Hope this helps, and I hope your issue is resolved.

why the heck would they replace a working fan? From your post, it sounds like the dealer is fixing fault codes and not thinking it through (especially if they are saying it is the ECU)- and worse, not testing to see if the treatment that they provided resolved your complaint before releasing the vehicle back to you.

I totally understand the fault code strategy and the process that they are working with, but that is NOT your problem and where is the quality control to make sure that they fixed the problem? You didn't say "I am here to have you fix anything you see wrong" you went in for a specific issue, paid money, and left the dealer with the same issue.

If they believe the problem is the computer, why didn't they consider a re-flash?

Hopefully you can get your money back. Sure, you are leaving with brand new parts that you did not need, but they shouldn't make a profit from those parts and the labor that they billed you for, in my opinion, is valued at $0.00

Time to find a new dealership!!!!!

Not sure where you live but a family friend owns Chaplin's VW near Bellevue, WA and he said that he would be more than willing to reimburse someone for a problem that was not fixed. My wife's car is 8years old this year and they are still fixing common stuff, the other day they replaced a malfunctioning coolant sensor for free. It is amazing how many dealerships recognize the importance of customers and than there are dealers like yours that sell cars and nothing other than BS and parts. Find another dealer that is willing to help and than report your dealer to the Better Business Bureau. No business wants to hear those words.

This has always been an issue for me an the local dealerships here in MD, Annapolis was the best but not perfect, Laurel and Glen Burnie - I will never go to either again, they would not follow up with their repair to see if it fixed the problem, they left it to me to come back in with the same complaint. I blame this process on the warranties - since alot of VW owners have a warranty there's no sweat off the dealer's back if they have to repair/replace another part due to poor diag skills.

Anyway, do yourself a favor and do what I've done recently and get yourself a good local VW specialist for out of warranty issues and mods. Not only will you have more personal service but the labor rates are cheaper and bad diagnosis are up for discussion & negotiation.

Good luck
