I am coming up on 30k miles and will soon need brakes, tires and general checkup...I heard on NPR that dealers are so desperate right now with sales at rock bottom that you can go in and negotiate service and tires, etc. cheap right now - they will even price match. Anyone try this?

I like going to the dealer for maint because it is a one-stop place for me and I feel like if the dealer is doing all the maint on the vehicle they are less likely to deny warranty issues.

If you want to "one-stop shop" at the dealer, you are paying more for the services, especially the brakes.

Good luck negotiating, but I doubt you'll end up getting too much off the prices on anything but the brakes. They may discount those a bit to try to be more competitive. Also, what is giving you the feeling of needing brakes? Has the warning on the MFI gone off?

You don't need brakes until the car tells you so. If the sensors have not gone off yet, then don't do anything with them.

The dealer near where I live (VW Laurel, MD) has a standing notices on their web site for a small discount on parts on Saturdays. I'd suggest that you could look on your dealer's web site for discounts.

When I had my Honda S2000 I registered to get mailings from the dealer and about once a month the dealer would send out a coupons with various discounts on different services - including brakes. Nothing significant but usually around 10-15%. Every bit counts!
