So for those of you that don't know me I'm kind of new here so bare with me while I rant... Anyways I recently bought a 04 V8(should have gotten a 05) but it was a good deal at 18.5k wit 58k miles. I got it on October 3rd, then the front right airbag blew out on the suspension the very next day... I take her into the dealer on the 9th. We then purchased an extended warranty to cover the suspension and so forth.

Since then I have checked up on the treg and they tell me a couple more days, waiting on a part blah, blah, blah. Now this Tuesday I call them and they say they finally got the part in and should be done Thursday if not then Friday(today). I just left a message for the service manager and haven't heard from them since. Am I getting the run around ? What would you do if you were in my position? Located in southern California. Sorry for the long right up everyone.

I would personally visit the dealership and develop a positive relationship with the service manager, the general manager and the owner.

That's what I did when I bought my 05' V8 pre-loved from out of state, before I brought her in for service. Stay positive and expect top shelf service on a top shelf vehicle. Be patient . . . and expect a positive, long term relationship with your local dealer. Try to look at the situation from their perspective. Plant positive seeds with them, and you will reap a positive crop. They get plenty of jerk offs coming in with unreasonable demands. Separate yourself from the jerk offs. Just my opinion, since you asked. Remember, everything has to be a "win-win!"

sometimes dealerships get busy and cars get pushed back on the schedule. also stop and think there may have been a sick tech or as more times than normal the wrong parts or not enough parts to do the job were ordered. either way a phone call would have been nice as to the status of your car.
dealerships must remember when the warranty runs out the game changes. its all how you were treated while you were under the warranty umbrella that will make you come back after your out of warranty. so with their high labor prices and 300% + mark up on parts they better kiss your butt while they have the chance. and remember as a customer to be patient, freindly and understanding. if you ever want what they call "GOOD WILL after the warranty" its how you treated the dealer that will make or break how they want to help you...

Thanks for your inputs :) I guess I just got a lil upset cus they never called to give me a heads up on my treg instead of having me call, not get anyone at the dealer, having to leave messages and wait for a follow up call. That was my main concern cuz the dealer only has a vociemail and no receptionist. But yea I have been a long time dubber since I was 16 and I do know what goes into these types of cars. Ugghh guess I just godda suck it up and wait :( I dont look well driving the sonata they gave me as a loner either, lol.

Could be a number of things a) waiting on parts or b) waiting for your extended warranty coverage to OK the repair or c) they just don't know what to do and a tech needs training. I'd pay them a visit and ask for a status update and get them to commit to a date when repairs will be complete.

The part delay sounds reasonable. It took about two weeks to get a replacement door during a body shop repair - about a week to get it into the US and another week to be freighted from the port. I imagine something like an air suspension bag may take as long.

Haha, I was asking myself damn did some one have to drive to germany to get the part??? But if I want the best I got to be patient. Ive got a handful of mods itching to go on the treg but shes not here :(

You know if cant afford the the cost of up keep on a touareg you shouldent buy one
Where did it say anywhere in here about cost being a problem? His complaint is on how long it is taking to do a repair. I think your comment was unwarranted. Next time read before you post.

You are getting treated like s*** because of the VW. If it was BMW things would be different. The problem is that VWs primary customer base are millions of Jettas and Golfs, not $40k luxury trucks. Therefore customer is getting treated like a teenager that came in for a $80 delusional oil change.

Also, in reality Touareg is a POS - yet there is no alternative.

well I have the exact opposite experience in SA, I nothing but hassles with my x5 and couldn't wait for the warranty to expire so that I could get it worked on privately. with VW when the Treg is booked in I get treated like royalty yea! its even rubbed off onto the Missus car when that goes in too. BMW Big Money Waste

You've clearly never been into a BMW dealership for service. If you think they care about anyone who isn't driving multiple M series cars or leasing out a brand new 7 every other year and has a long history of ownership then you're kidding yourself.

And if you think there's a difference between servicing a fleet of 20-30K jettas vs a fleet of 30-40K 3 series then you're also kidding yourself.

If I had your problem I would have two Tregs so that while one is in the shop I have one to drive, maybe three incase I need parts. But then again I love the Treg... :D

Seriously, I have a back up car, an '07 Lexus ES350. I just traded my '03 W8 Passat for an '04 V8 Touareg back on the 29th of October, I use VWs as my beater cars. It's been in the shop for 20 of the past 30 days. I've had this experience with every VW that needs repair work done as opposed to maintenance. I chalk it up to the fact that VW systems are complex and the repair process is sometimes an iterative process, i.e. start to repair, order some parts, find out you need more parts, order more parts, start process again...

I haven't opted for the extended warranty since the mid 90's on my cars. Largely because they are a pain and while you can always break even they bind you into a contract, require additional paper work/time, change the way the dealer will trouble shoot your car (i.e. not quickest cheapest path to resolution) and have a deductible. not to mention the fact that if you don't do the "required" preventative maintenance you're warrenty could be voided. Also, modding could void your warrenty.

Good luck!

What dealership are you going to?

I live in O.C. and I've had real good luck at Commonwealth V.W. in Santa Ana (off the 55).

Still, if they've got to order a part, it takes as long as it takes.
