The nice folks at Avis gave a Hummer H3 to drive this week. I got out of Houston just ahead of the storm. The H3 can be best discribed as POS. Can't see out of it, can't get in it, burns gas at an incredible rate, no power, all noise on acceleration. Perfect Texas car. These can't go away fast enough. No comparison to Touareg in any way.

A co-worker had one for a while. I only rode in it once, and it wasn't the most pleasant of vehicular experiences. I'm sure the drive isn't any better.

They had a $149/month lease special advertised on the H3 out here a while back. I wonder why...

you are not comparing apples with apples.. compare hummer against say nissan patrol etc would be a lot fairer... the patrol is crap (pack a neck brace and an anchor to stop in the wet) LOL

The H3 is a GMC Colorado frame with H3 specific suspension. The H2 is a Chevy Tahoe frame. The H3 actually has a better off road pedigree than the H2 (better angle of approach and departure). The only real Hummer is/was the H1 and it never really hit the mark until they put the Duramax diesel under the hood....awesome vehicle.

Yeah,it's also slow, crummy gas mileage, and a little on the rough riding side, but like you said a great off-road vehicle.
