More trailer wiring issues -- sort-of...

I noticed last night that when towing my trailer, the right-hand side brake/turn signal wasn't working on the trailer, (worked fine on the T2.)

However, I never received any kind of warning on the MFD or anywhere else that the trailer had an issue.

In fact, I've never noticed anything inside my touareg indicating that a trailer was attached.

The controller has been re-coded to US-spec, but I haven't changed any other on-bolard settings. All the trailer's lights (except for the right-hand turn signal and brake light,) are working fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions, pr perhaps my '08 T2 no longer has any kind of trailer diagnostic feature?

That's a good question. I have never driven a T2, let alone towed with one.
Have the circuits in question on the trailer tested as good, meaning have you test for continuity? What about for resistance? Are you using a 7pin to 4 pin adapter?

Didn't specifically test for continuity, but they all operated correctly (i.e. the lights lit up when they were supposed to, except for that one faulty circuit.)

What about for resistance?
Didn't check that.

Are you using a 7pin to 4 pin adapter?
No, a 7-to-6/4 adaptor from eTrailers.com. The trailer uses the 6-pin connector.

I have had problems with 7-4 and 7-6 adapters in the past. I never did determine the cause. All the same, test the circuit in question to make sure there it is not open.

The adaptor I have is very simple -- just a 7-wire connector hard-wired to a 6-wore connector and a 4-wire connector. All the connections are well-soldered and have continuity. one pin in the 7-wire connector was loose and 3 were loose in the 6-wire, but a bit of Crazy-Glue fixed that nicely.

I did have to swap the +12v and brake wires on the 6-pin connector, which is not uncommon. The center pin can either be a constant +12v for accessories (like interior lighting, to charge a winch battery, etc...) or for brakes.

So if the brakes engage as soon as you plug in the harness, you need to swap those two pins.

I have an '08 T2 and when the bulb in my trailer's left rear turn indicator burned out, I got a "check left trailer light" error message on the MFD, and the "lightbulb" warning icon.

Also, before my dealer changed the module setting, I had a constant MFD warning to check trailer taillights.

My car is a V6 with technology package.

OK, so wone question I need an answer to is are there any modules OTHER than the trailer module that need to be re-coded, or adapted, or otherwise changed when the trailer controller is added?

As I said earlier, I added the trailer controller and re-coded it from the rest-of-world setting (0000001) to the US setting (0000002). I have not changed any other controlers.
