I travel alot, hence my wife is left on her own with our '05 CPO V8 (35K miles) which we bought a couple of months ago. This is the second time she has called me to say that the T-reg won't start. First time was an unexplained drained battery. I suspect the same thing this time, but won't be home 'til tomorrow to check it out. Fortunately these two instances (in the past two months) happened at home, and she has another car she can drive. But this has never happened to her with any of the the autos we have owned in 34 years of marriage. I'm starting to doubt that this car is reliable enough for my wife (who has zero mechanical apptitude). That Subaru B9 Tribeca is starting to float back into the picture.

Boh of mine have been completly reliable. Always started and ran perfect. They did do the stepper motor on the 04 but that was a one day with a loaner. The V-10 is getting close to it's third oil change at 20k without any other service.

Okie, did they change out the battery or just recharge it? I find if a battery ever suddenly goes flat, its time for it to go...

that said, my '04 was a piece of junk, but it never left me stranded...

I think the treg is too "techy" for my wife. All the ding-dongs and beeps would drive her nuts. Plus, it is no secret that the Treg has had some issues, and after reading this forum for a while, I wouldn't be comfortable if my wife drove this car every day into the city. Mine has been reliable so far, but I've read too many stories here... I know the day will come.

I answered "No" (I'd trust it with my wife). Of course, all my wife has ever owned has been Jaguars though, so she's pretty resourceful.

Her current '99 XK8 (which she drives into downtown Los Angeles from Orange County every day) has been extremely reliable, but any car is going to have a problem now and then.

Based on my experience with my former SUV ('95 Jeep Grand Cherokee), I'd be confident about her in the Touareg way, way, way more than in the Jeep, sad to say. Heck, I pretty much gave up driving that vehicle anywhere but to/from work. Hence my motivation to get the Touareg.

We traded cars for a couple days last week because she had been getting a check light on the Jag and I wanted to keep an eye on it, and she had a blast driving mine. She actually jokingly said she didn't want to give it back! Of course, YMMV.

My wife drives our treg. Much more reliable than the MLs we had. It is built rock solid, can handle any weather conditions put in front of it, and I feel that it is one of the safest vehicles on the road. It also is a vehicle that pretty much goes unnoticed, except by the ones in the know. Since you live in LA, much less likely to be targeted than a Range Rover, A BMW or Cayanne. True, there have been some glitches along the way, but once repaired, the vehicle excels in ride, comfort, and reliablilty. As for the battery problem, have them replace the battery and the wires to the battery. I believe that was a problem with ours. Since that was done, no issue.

I charged the battery overnight, and everything is back to normal. But since the battery is covered under the
4-years/50K mile warranty, and this is the second time in three months it has drained unexplainably, I'm going to take your advice and take it in to the dealer and ask for a new battery. IMHBAO a husband can't allow his wife out into the highways and byways with an unreliable battery (hopefully that is all that it is.)

FWIW, I've not had any other problems with this satisfying vehicle.;-)

Not so fast my friends . . . battery just drained again after sitting in the garage for 24 hours. I took it back to the dealer and they called this afternoon and said they had not found any problem so far with their "diagnostics," and they wanted to keep it another day. This is starting to worry me a bit. I can't afford to have my wife stranded while I'm out of town.

Okie, get a new battery if you haven't done so already. For every vehicle I've ever owned, the root of all dead battery evils has been the battery itself.

Oops I screwed up and said the treg IS NOT reliable enough to be a Lady's car (for that I need to change my vote!). I have had my touareg for a little over 2.5 years and have no doubt in my mind that it's an acceptable reliable vehicle for women to own/operate.

I'm giving the dealer a chance to do just that, under warranty. They called today and said they could not find anything wrong. They also asked me if I locked the car over night in the garage. I said that we do not lock the car. They said that perhaps "something" is not shutting down and is draining the battery. They also said that when you lock your car, all systems shut down and the car "goes to sleep." I told them to keep the car for a third day, leave it unlocked over night and check the battery tomorrow. I guess we'll see what we will see.

Dealer called and said battery was deader than a door nail this morning. Since they couldn't find anything wrong diagnostically, they decided to replace the battery. I mentioned the cables have been reported to be a problem and they said they were going to run ground fault checks. I have been very pleased with the service and attitude of my hometown VW dealer Cable Volkswagen of Oklahoma City.

Okie, after replacing the battery did you have this problem again or was it truly only a battery problem?

No more problems. The vehicle has been 100% reliable. No more concerns. We love this truck!:joy:

My wife and two year old drive mine every now and again - Never even crosses my mind...

- that's - my wife drives it and my two year old is a passenger ;)

i would trust the car with her, but would i trust her with the car?????!!!!

i only hope that she knows how and when to fill up the fuel tank, and to be able to read the engine temperature gauge!!!

I would be madder than hell if I got the answer that it might be because you did not lock the car. Mine is never locked at night.

I know they fixed the problem with a new battery but answers like that I would find unacceptable from any dealer. Just my two cents

I am a newly divorced gal, and I completely trust my recently purchased CPO Touareg. I am certain that if any problems arise, that VW-CPO will cover me.

So, yes. Woman Worthy (*and* sexy as hell! ;) )
