I'd say it's what VW called Canyon grey (same as Graphite grey on the higher end Audis). Canyon was the intermediate colour offered between Silver and Flint.

That's what I thought originally to but just drove 12 Canyon Grey gasser and it's not purple at all. Looks nothing like these pics.

Photos can be misleading, check the colour code in the owners manual build sheet (there's one in the trunk too).

Probably Canyon Gray. Maybe Flint.

Galapagos Gray is way darker. I suspect the digital camera is injecting a little purple due to the lighting conditions or something.

That is not purple at all. Not sure where you are seeing that color in those pics. There appears to me to be a slight red tint to the whole pic which may be your perception of it looking purple. It is a gray color. Just bad lighting and possibly camera.

This is mine - Galapogas anthracite metallic.
They reckon it's grey, to me it usually looks more brown than grey.
In the right light it can take on a purplish tinge - like mountains in the distance.

Is this a purple color? Looking at a 2013 now and guy sent me these pics. Looks purple to me. ?
From your picture it looks like Galapagos to my eye...

Galapagos is a opaque metallic paint with a lot of color(s). Based on the light, angles, time of day, cloud cover etc, it will read in differently. Purple is one. Brown is another. Reddish gray is another.

It wasn't my 1st choice (I think Yeti got the last 4CAir build in Alaska Gray ;)), but I've come to really like it.

Ok thanks guys. I'm headed over to my local VW dealer today to run the vin. This way I can find out for sure. The pics you guys posted looked great though. Thanks again.

Oh I don't know, I'm sure there is another one or two out there. Mine wasn't even in the states yet when I was working on buying it. Chris told me mine was supposed to be going to his sales manager when he was trying to sell it to me. :)

I had a galapagos 09 and I loved the color. usually a brown-grey, never a grey like canyon grey or something like that. Its got a heavy metallic flake mix in it so you'll get a bunch of colors popping out in direct sunlight, some have a purple hue but it doesn't make the vehicle look purple.

It doesn't photograph the way it looks...this is one that you need to see with your own eyes to decide if you like/don't like.

Too funny, mine was also the dealers car. My test drive was he gave it to me for the weekend. :)
