I am getting my 2004 touareg ready to trade in. It is one of the late vin number models, but I still think it is a total piece of crap. 15 MPG, stuff breaks and falls off, etc.

Sorry to vent. Anyway, when I got my new tires, the local tire shop broke one of my tpms sensors. I know it is made by beru, but can't find them anywhere. where can you buy these things at a resonable price? dealership wanted $250. Also, can't you just turn of the tpms?

i am new to this forum, but have used forums before. I tried to search, but no luck on finding the info I needed.

thanks for any help

If the tire shop broke it make them buy a new one. No, you can't turn it off at all. What kind of mileage were you expecting from a heavy car such as the Treg? Have fun with whatever you trade it in on, for I bet you end up missing it, others have when they have gotten rid of them.

We'll see if I miss it. there are some very good qualities as well, but a denali with a 6.0 liter gets 14.5-15 mpg, so they could do better. The tire shop has been awesome to me for over 20 years, so I won't do that to them for a piece that from what I have read on here, breaks very easy. where would you buy a replacement from???? Anyone

I just went through a similar situation with a tire shop near me, who gouged the crap out of one of my wheels while doing a flat repair. When I brought it up, they bought me a new wheel. It ended up costing the tire tech dearly for his mistake. Did I feel bad? Kinda, but I also realize that I shouldn't have to pay for someone else's mistake. Had he been paying attention to what he was doing, or at least come forward and apologized, I wouldn't have minded so much. But, since he wasn't up front and didn't point out his mistake, and I found it myself later, I really have a hard time feeling too bad.

I would seriously go back to the tire shop and get it fixed on their dime. You're going to have to go somewhere anyway to get the new one installed, so you might as well have them buy it too.

Vegas Matt,

I know this is off topic, but your Mitch Hedberg quote is killing me! No one else in the office thinks it's funny, but I am dying over here!

"At my sister's house everybody was helping get dinner ready except me. I wasn't doing s**t. I was like the 'p' in 'receipt.'" - Mitch Hedberg

Now that is some funny stuff!

Thanks! I've been a Mitch fan for a while. Saw him live with Dave Attell and Lewis Black back in 2001 or 2002, and have been a fan ever since. I've had a few other quotes of his in there over time, as I try to change them out periodically.

Back to the TPMS sensor discussion...

Matt

Tire Rack apparently sells them also but no where near the price of the dealer. I don't know what they charge for I never had a reason to look.

If I remember right, the Tire Rack will only sell the sensors if you buy them with wheels.

Matt

Edit to add: yep that's the case. Check here: Tire Rack TPMS page
So doe that mean when you buy your wheels you will get me a of sensors for my spare wheels? ;)

TPMS question

I had a valve stem completely corode and crumble but was told that inorder to replace the stem, I have to replace the sensor as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether this in fact is something that is necessary or just a money maker for the dealer?
