Hi all... I Joined up here near on three years ago to get my hands on a VAG-COM for my Polo (Which I was successful in doing) :D

Anyway, I've not long picked up a 2004 V8 Touareg "For the missus" (She's already expressed interest in taking over the Polo once her car sells...).

Since purchase, I've replaced a few of the vacuum lines in the engine bay (Which has resulted in the brakes working! Shock horror!), put a working speaker into the dash cluster, and chased some other electrical gremlins out.

On the to-do list is a valve body as she's a little grumpy on shifting once warm, timing belt (approaching 90,000km on this one - they're good for 120,000 according to Bentley??), acquisition of a full size spare, and shoehorning of aforementioned spare into the boot (Likely will build a carrier for it), and possibly the addition of a Raspberry Pi for CANBus interface with display on the nav unit (Because I'm a bit geeky).

I'm a bit of a four-wheeler from way back, although I'm not planning on doing anything really hardcore with the Touareg, it will probably be reserved for carting me to and from mountain bike trips.

I live South East of Melbourne, and have a HEX+CAN VCDS if anyone needs access to one.

Timing belt is 80k miles or 5 years. If it's not been done before it is well overdue and if it lets go the engine is toast.

That's good news if the belt has been done.

If the car is at 90K and the belt was done at 90K presumably that wasn't long ago?

You may not be able to tell anything by looking at the belt itself

No no - the car is near 180,000 - the belt was done at 90,000, hence 90,000 on this one ;)

Looked at log book and the belt was done in 10/2010, so I have a few months before the 60 month mark...I wonder if the exchange rate will pick up between now and then?

Good to see you are on top of the maintenance!

Enjoy it. I love V8s!

Hey ecks, Nice to see another Melbourenian on the Forum, we have a few. I am out at Sydenham and also have VCDS, and a mad modifier. Would be good to cross paths some time.

Have a look at the 2015 Treg Muster thread, the more starters the better.

Stuart..
