I wonder how insurance would feel if I only ran one winter and three all seasons.... my policy only stipulates that I use winter tires, but doesn't say how many.... at least I don't think it does.... need to review.

That's lame.

I've been considering getting rid of that thing and going with studs.

Bummer, at least you know how to deal w/it.

As smart as I think I am, you'd be surprised at just how messed up this fiasco is.....
So... first attempt was to run over to the parts store to get a set of bolt extractors that weren't already in my toolbox.

But since nothing is ever as simple as it seems, the lock bolt's OD appears to be some weird size.... so when using the 15/16" extractor, it only grabs onto the "anti tamper" outer sleeve..... when using the 7/8" extractor, I can barely grab onto the outer lip of the bolt, and the extractor flutes stripped (that 1/32" or so that I could get onto it) as a result.
Unfortunately, due to the design of the rim and the small bore clearance around the bolt head, I can't really "smash" the 15/16" extractor deeper onto the bolt with the hopes that it will just mangle the anti-taper sleeve and bite into the actual bolt head.... without damaging the rim

So, since this happened on a Sunday, I tapped out, went online and ordered a bunch of stuff to have on hand during my next attempt.......

In the meantime, I sent the wife to the dealer to get a replacement key. If it's cheap enough, and a new key also gives way, I "may" get a 2nd and try to harden it before I give it one last shot..... after that, it's drill out time later this week!

Mostly due to fear of damaging rim.
The bolt bores are quite tight around the head of the bolts, and the lock bolts have shallower heads than the normal hex heads, so as such, I'd be trying to weld deep inside said bore... I'm more confident in drilling a hole for the extractor in the head of the bolt without any time damage than I am with attempting to stick the gun in there while holding a nut onto the head and keeping all spatter off the chrome rims.

At least my swap went without issue yesterday. And I have the working TPMS sensors on the vehicle again, so one less light on the dash for the next six months.
