Hello there! My Touareg 2015 TDI has started to make a noise when it first got very cold in my town. The noise disappeared after I drove for a while, but now, we are about at -11c to -18c and I hear “Whale” sounds or strong winds going through tight places. From what I searched, it might be the power steering or the drive shaft.

The sound appears only upon acceleration and is random. When the car moves without any pedals pressed, no more sound appears.

Before I get it checked, I wanted to see if it was a recognized issue on the forum. Thank you!

I'll record something then.
Probably a good idea. Trying to ask for help diagnosing something that no one else can hear is not an optimal approach.
Also, power steering is typically not a factor if you're not actively "steering". The pump would also still be spinning at idle, etc. What kind of ODO reading on this thing? Known service\maintenance history? Have you checked serpentine belt, idlers, tensioner? If it's your hanger bearing, the noise should change relative to vehicle speed, and should still be present if you're at speed and you shift to N and coast.

VW has a good SSP that if you were to read, should give you a decent idea of how to track down noises.
