One reason.....Because you can! Owning a Toaureg is like a smack addiction!. Nowdays smack is proabably cheaper... :-(

I have just had another rush of blood ( to the head, nooby!!) and forked out some folding stuff for a new pair of Brembo 17z's to upgrade my 2008 V6 TDI. (sorry typo in Title) Going from 4 Piston (1LE) to 6 Piston (1LF).

The deletion of the 6 piston in the lower units in the Facelift models was a cost cutting only activity, as they retained them ( albeit bigger rotors) in the R50 of the same year. Also my rears are the 1KF dual piston callipers from the factory which are also common with the R50 of the same year.. The MY08 Audi Q7 Diesel has the same combination of 6 + 4, so looks like the "cheap" cousin copped the downgraded brakes.

Performance wise the existing are quite respectable, however I upgraded the brakes on my Holden SS (LS1 V8) with AP Racing 4 + 4 and I felt that even allowing for the extra weight of the Touareg, that the Factory 4 + 4 set up was good, but nothing special. Mind you a change of pad type did help quite a bit.

So the intent is to fit these up with double layer braided stainless steel brake hoses to firm up the pedal and increase the linearity of the pedal feel. I am also talking to an automotive engineering firm to have my bake pedal repositioned to put it on the same plane (level) as the throttle to allow for heal and toe braking. I have looked at fabricating a spacer block under the throttle, however, in my case leg room is already tight, and this isn't viable.

So another project is now in the queue, are I fully recover from my last surgery.. Looks like I am going to be a busy like addict.

Stuart...

Never mind, you have to be daft to run a Touareg anyway!!

very good idea Stuart, when i found out that T2 had 4 piston brakes in front i searched the info about if it could be upgraded to T1 6 piston ones and yes it can, so whenever the time will come to sell my T1 and buy T2 ill swap brakes 100% :)

Your point is valid, but it was more in regard to how I position my right foot. On more than one occasion I have caught the sole of my boot/shoe on the side of the brake pedal when shifting across. Happens when your are use to "aligned" pedals. This can be the difference between opps! and oh ****!.. I cannot understand why you have to lift your right foot onto the brake pedal rather then simply swing it across.

Hey Nooby, after my Full Frontal Lobotomy I now enjoy spending money on the Treg!!

Like the drunk in the Outback Pub said, " I would prefer a Full Bottle in Front of Me than a Full Frontal Lobotomy"...

Correct, it makes no sense, but ..........I can do it...so, why not....!!! Totally Barmy, but had the Barmy Army as tutors...!! Can't wait till the Ashes..( see proof of being Balmy)

If anybody made a reasonable range of Off Road tyres in 19 Inch I may have considered going to 1LT's (368 mm) as they would be very nice..

"Because you can" is as good as any reason to do it! I just bought a set of 17zs for my 2003 allroad...because I can! And once they're powdercoated bright red, they'll match the Touareg's bright red 18zs! :)

All Done, new 6 Piston Brembo 17z's in place with new rotors....photo's tomorrow, ran out of light.....

Fitted up using TRW Pads and RDA rotors. ( http://www.rdabrakes.com.au/ ). Rotors were cheap, AU$98 each, quality aftermarket product with a real warranty, not a no name brand.

Haven't had much time for testing but, they feel excellent at this early stage even with very "green" pads..

John the Callipers are the 17z's which work with the 330mm x 32 mm dia rotors. Audi Q7 or T1 V8
