The roof rack needs to be towards the front of the vehicle over the sunroof. We had the same issue. It whistles through the track.

It is probably because it is on backwards. Are you the original owner of the vehical? If you never use the rack, just take it off. I like the looks of the Treg w/o the rack on personally. Only time I have a rack on mine is winter time for skiing and it is not the OEM rack, but a Yakima system.

 

My guess is it's either backwards or you need to swap the one in the front to the back.

The 2011's are very specific with OEM in that one is front and one is rear...different length to them. Also, can't really move them forward or back as there are little pins/pin holes to mount them into. So their position is "set" by the factory rails and how they were made to fit.

May not be the same for earlier models.

I passed a TReg in StL the other day (going over the 270 Chain of Rocks bridge NE of StL)...and as I've seen in some photos here, it had just the rear crossbar on. That'd just be for "looks" yeah?

 

I have just been told its on backwards - oops. The rack (2 piece) slides back to look like a single Aerofoil - when it is to be used, just unlock the front one & slide to position lock it down & you have a roof rack - pretty smart I think

 

Turn them back around... the "sloped" piece goes towards the back and the "stubby" is the front; looks backwards of what would be correct, but as it states in the manual, they must be this way or else they will causes noise

 

Christchurch? Didnt that town just get his with a 5.X earthquake? Glad you made it out of there. GL with the noise issue.

Yes thats right. The City was hit in SEptember last year with a 7.2 quake - no deaths & old brick building tumbled down. Then less than 72 hours ago a 6.3 quake hit just before 1pm. This was a Killer quake, flattened buildings trapping hundreds inside. Over 120 rescued, but now rescue has turned to "recovery". Some amazing video of people being found alive. Most people in the South Island of New Zealand know some one who has died (Whole of South Island population is only around a Million).

Yes reversing the tear drop shape makes the rack whistle! So for anyone with a Factory fitted rack & a whistle the shape needs to be - half a tear drop with blunt end forward!
