You have a TorSen centre differential, like most longitudinal Audis use. It is purely mechanically engaged whenever there is a speed difference between the axles.

Does it have oil which needs changing?
Front and rear Differentials and the Transfer Case fluids should be changed at 60-80K miles depending on how the vehicle is used.

Yes and no!

You might be thinking of the Haldex system in some other VAG cars which needs an oil change every 40,000 miles.

However that is not the system in the Touareg.

VW dealers will tell you that apart from the engine all other oils in the Touareg are in "sealed for life" units. That's the "no" bit!

The "yes" part is that the general advice here is to change the lubricants in your diffs, transfer box and auto gearbox about every 80,000 miles, or sooner if you tow something heavy over a lot of miles.
