Where to buy 3.6 VR6 engine for 2012 Touareg

I’m new to this forum and a new Touareg owner. Purchased a 2012 Touareg in November 2020 with 159k. Thought I got a good deal, but noticed it was burning oil. It wasn’t smoking or blowing blue, but it went through 1.5L in about 900km. Then one day it filled the street with smoke, sputtered and died. I was told it drank almost all the oil into the intake through the PCV unit. Dealer diagnosis, replaced PCV and cleaned it all out + new oil and filter ($2,300). It ran for a couple days as the mechanic test drove it. Still smoked at first, but smoke dissipated. Dealer thought it was fixed, but the day I picked it up, I didn’t even make it home...the exact same thing happened and I towed it back to the dealer. All diagnoses and work was done at the local VW dealer. They did compression tests and cylinders 1,2 & 5 failed. Does anyone know where I can find a new motor? Or have any other suggestions?

Was a compression test carried out? Are you sure it wasnt overfilled with oil? It needs a proper diagnosis before deciding the course of action.
What''s the car worth if it were running okay?
Here in the states there is a company called LKQ, big auto recycle. Search & Buy Parts - LKQ Corp
You should try Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. That's a website that where a bunch of auto wreckers post parts they have for sale. They even have places in Canada. I have been using this site for years. I bought an engine for my jaguar x type 3 years ago, I bought a bumper and tail light for my 2009 touareg just last week. Check it out.

Yes, compression test was carried out. Dealer did the service, so it should not have been overfilled and I spoke with the mechanic directly...he used a manual dipstick as well as read the screen. Dealer diagnosis was also in conjunction with VW corp direction as this (as it was told to me) is not something that happens with these engines.

$17K - 20K CDN
Okay, so well worth trying to fix then. Hope you can find a decent replacement.
I got a 3.6 VR from LKQ from a 2015 Passat with 25K miles on it and swapped it into my 2007 Touareg that had 109K with timing chain issue... Not sure what exact wiring harness is on the later models but the only wiring issue I had was the intake and exhaust valve sensor connectors had to be changed to ones from 2015 wiring harness. I swapped the oil pan and pickup, and the motor mounts, removed some vac stuff as intake on new motor didnt need all the stuff that old motor and intake had, but had to also remove vac pump on back of motor to make it fit (not needed anymore). I used fuel rails from 2007 and also the original exhaust heat shield. Rest was plug and play, except I learned that crank pully on newer motors is narrower than the 2007 one and pully not is inter-changible so I just trimmed one spline off of serpentine belt and all was good... newer motor is more powerful and efficient. Biggest problem I ran into was the motor I got was from a manual tranny car and had a bitch of a time getting throw-out bearing out of crank shaft.. and of course I panic'ed when it wouldnt start right away but then realized I had to crank it a while more to get fuel into injectors and varoom... not bad for a 60 year old Ford FE guy... :)

Forgot one other thing, on old vac system, there were three vac connections to original one piece metal intake manifold. New plastic 2 piece intake had only 2 connections so I had to put in a tee to join the 2 into 1. fwiw
