Wheel spacers on a T3

All the old threads, have "dead" pics.

I am looking to add spacers to my 2014 T3 R Line, and not sure what size to get.
It has the stock 20" wheels, and I will be installing H&R springs in the very near future.

Please post pics of your T3 with spacers, showing how the wheels line up with the fender, and let us know what size spacers you are running.

TIA

Stay away from HR lowering springs!!!! I just took them off my Touareg bc it was so BAD!!! Went back to stock. The treg bounced so bad on rough roads, the only people that could tolerate being in the back seat were my kids(7&10)... had them on for 7 months or so... btw I’ll sell them real cheap if you want them

Thanks for the feedback.

Bought a new set. Put them in last weekend. So far I really like them.
The ride is very close to stock, but removed the "top heavy" feeling.

Also added 15mm spacers in the front, and 20mm in the rear.

At first I liked the feel, felt fine, the stance was perfect but after a month or so the ride was just horrible... hope you have better luck than I did.. can u post a pic of the ride

This is your own choice. If your T3 is not lifted, 5mm spacer makes it looks comfortable, increase a little negative camber and help traction. 5mm spacer also let you use your stock lug.

Get a reputable brand like HR, given the truck is heavy. At least some reputable 6061 Alum on amazon that did not have extra holes.

Thanks for the feedback. I went with quality, hubcentric spacers that are only 5x130.

I did 15mm front, and 20mm in the rear.

I want to go a little wider, so I just got 25mm that I am going to put in the rear, and move the 20mm to the front

I want to see 25mm spacer on rear with 20mm on front. I would guess there are new studs on the hubcentric spacer? Also, looking for update re: H&R springs
I cant send PM's yet (need 15 posts)

I haven't taken any pics since the springs settled and switching the spacers around, but I am still loving the springs.
They are H&R Sport Springs - I don't think there are other options from H&R for the Touareg.

I moved the 20mm from the rear to the front, and got 25mm for the rear, and they line up the wheels with the fender nicely.

The spacers came from eBay. - these guys https://www.ebay.com/usr/dsx-customs

Good price, good quality and look nice (not that you can see them when they are installed...

I will work on getting some pics soon..

Bigeye,
Looks very nice. Why did you want spacers?
This heavy beasts. there will be extra stress on the wheel bearings, plus I would think that the treg would require a slight increase in toe-in?
Why not get proper offset wheels?

Do you have any problem with steering vibration with this increase of 40mm (combined) spacers. Theses newer Treg’s are very sensitive to wheel nut torque.

I know that wasn’t directed at me but I totally agree. I’ve seen weird things happen with spacers. Back in the day I had Volk TE37 in 19x9.5 + 12 up front and 19x10.5 + 12 in the rear. Some people needed less backspacing but needed the width and I’d see some crazy spacers on performance cars which never rode correctly. I opted for correct sized wheels without the spacers and never had a problem.

This is on a T4 R-Line but it's spacer related so thought it best to pop it in this thread.

I've got 21" OEM Mallory wheels with 275/40/21 Goodyear Ultragrip winter boots and wanted the chunky OEM look. Fitted a some H&R spacers bought from AKS Tuning, 18mm on the front and 23mm on the rear.

Spacers and Winter tyres on, badges off. Wiper and the rest of the chrome next.

Found it!

So you can buy the silver side steps that look more like a sideskirt and the rear piece too.

Yes.

Those front and rear pieces are more "off road brush guards" than sport lips / lower spoilers / ground effects. The "Brush Guards" are made to keep the front and rear from getting scratched to hell when you are approaching or leaving high angle areas when off road.

The R-Line had that traditional lower spoiler look.

I'd be interested in a sport lower spoiler setup for my 2012.

Has anyone here run a 22x10.5 et55 on T3/2011? I just ordered a set per what a lot of websites recommend, but starting think I may get some rub in the front. That and I think the sales person may be off on his thinking this would be flush fitment. I ordered 285/22R35 tires. This is the exact tire set up I have on my 18 Q7, so hoping I can achieve the same great look.
Please feel free to point me in direction of thread if this has been covered elsewhere. Thanks!

is it just the body that makes the t3 look as if the rear wheels sit in more than the front?....i think im going to go 15mm front and 20mm rear and my new rims are et45

I installed the H&R springs on my 2013 TDI and absolutely LOVED the look. However, I had the same experience as above. As much as my eyes wanted my brain to forget about the huge deterioration in ride quality, the brain finally won and I removed them. I don't necessarily blame H&R but with the OEM strut operating in the lower part of its range, it simply killed the ride of the Treg. Now I have a'16 Treg, and would love to lower it but H&R is out of the question.

You know that is simply not a reflection on H&R at all? You even mentioned that you are aware it is not an ideal pairing of the springs and shocks, but then place blame squarely on the H&R springs. I bet if you were to get a dedicated set of sport shocks to match, you'd be much happier...

I run H&R sport shocks with Bilstein B6 and it rides similarly to my previous cars that had coilovers:
  • 2000 Audi A6 4.2 (H&R coilovers)
  • 2010 Audi A4 2.0 Avant (H&R coilovers)
  • 2017 Subaru WRX (TEIN adjustable coilovers)
Yeah, the B6 cost about $1,000 USD, but 100% worth it. I didn't want a bouncy ride. I do not have a bouncy ride.

The benefit of springs vs coilovers is that you don't have to worry about adjusting them over time as all coilovers slip over time depending on how bad your roads are. The downside, of course, is that you only have one ride height.

I also put H&R springs, Bilstein B6 shocks and 18mm spacers on front and 23 mm spacers on rear. No clashes, rides well, albeit slightly lower. No roll when going on fast corners
