I need input from you guys on this. I am deciding on buying a 04-06 T1 V8 or 2008 T2 V8. Which one is better? Which one would you guys buy? Which one looks better too in your opinion. Thank You!

I just dealt with this same quandry this past year prior to the purchase of my treg. I'll cut to the chase...……...I went with the T2, 08 V8 FSI.
It really comes down to personal preference IMHO as both T1 and T2's are great! With the facelifted T2 model, VW implemented some 2000 + updates/changes (supposedly) over the outgoing T1 model. Not quite sure what most of the changes are to be honest but the big changes that sold me were A: The addition of the direct injected 32v FSI V8 B: I love the look of the T1's, after all, they are the OG Touaregs however, I prefer the facelifted looks of the T2.
For me, the T3 wasn't an option as it had lost a lot of the drivetrain items that made me look at the Touareg to begin with.
My 2 cents. Cant really go wrong either way. Good luck in your search. Cheers N8!
T2 V8 owner here. I think if you had access to both, I'd recommend the T2 because, as mentioned, you have the FSI motor. More power, newer tech and no more timing belt. The FSI motor has a timing chain that does not need to be replaced on a regular basis.
Be aware that with a T2, you'll lose the option of the factory installed heater steering wheel, electrically adjustable steering column, drawer under the passenger seat, ski boot in the rear seat, center sun visor (above rear view mirror) and the dog divider cage behind the rear seat. Those can be added from a T1, but AFAIK, they were not available stock.
And as these vehicles age, it's often better to start with a newer one, all other things being the same.
Everything is a trade off. One engine has a timing belt. The other engine you will have to disassemble to do a carbon cleaning.
Since they are so similar, I would recommend buying either the T1 or the T2. How would I decide?
Well, the first used T1 or T2 that I found, that was in the condition I wanted, that was in the price range I wanted...
That is the one I would get!
Don't jump the gun. If you find one that looks like it is in bad shape, just keep waiting. Only exception to that is if you can find it at $1000 and you like fixing things. Parts are not cheap, so the final cost of a junker that you fixed will be about the price of one running. A few people on here have made out well doing a Touareg rebuild, but they spent of lot of personal time.
Don't even consider buying a junker if you can't do the work. The dealer charges more to fix them then they are valued for. Free junker + $12,000 for dealer fixes = Ouch!
Anyways, hope this helps. Both V8s are pretty nice.
T1 owner here, I personally liked the looks of the T1 better. What I don’t like is the fact that the engine needs to be dropped for everything. I also don’t like the fact that it costs to maintain as a super car. [emoji23]
I really do love my T1 though, it rides great, plenty of power, can tow. It’s all about the market, if a great T1 pops up buy it, if a great T2 pops up buy it. Never settle.
I looked for over 4 years for my truck, I had 3 previous deals fall through before buying mine. Can’t rush these things lol.

Thank you all for the input. I got more to think about. Touaregman33 is right on the point of not rushing things and I certainly do not want to do that. With either, I would recommend considering one with the air suspension. Ride, handling, off-road ability, auto leveling for towing.
I also like the 07 touareg with T1 body but that is difficult to find with a V8 engineI've got a little of both models with our 2 07's, T1 body with all the goodies, T2 upgrades, V8 FSI, AFS headlights.
Mine w/ air and 265/70/17's and the wife's w/ steel suspension and 255/55/18's. They both drive great, I like my air as I tow a construction trailer and like to go offroad. I think hers feels a little tighter but it's probably just the fact that she has road tires and mine are A/T.
I’ve owned both T1 V8 with air suspension and now a T2 V8 with steel suspension. Both loaded with lots of options. I prefer the T2 but do miss the Napa leather in the T1.
By the way, there is a loaded T2 with air ride for sale here in the classified section with 78,000 miles. He is asking $9,500.

I have the air suspension as well in mine and it’s great, but think down the line, when that air suspension fails, it’s going to be extremely annoying and expensive to replace. You honestly don’t use the air suspension all that often either. I leave mine in sport because I like it lower to the ground.
If this one that you’re looking at is absolutely amazing but the regular suspension is what’s holding you back, just go for it. You won’t regret it. Sometimes you have to pick and choose with used cars with what options you can live without.

Yes that's an amazing deal. Its not that far from me, about 7 hours drive. I gotta hurry up before someone snatch from me. oh really? I've also been looking on ebay too.5,800 with 96k on a V8? That’s an amazing deal definitely go check it out! Or just buy it if it’s not close and you get a good vibe from it.
I actually found my truck off EBay, bought it site unseen shipped it from SC to NY.

Brief hijack: muffler delete. I'm tempted to do it but can I fire it up early in the morning and burble out of my neighborhood without riling up the neighbors? Highway drone? Should I put a fresh blade on the sawzall and go do it now?
Get the Sawzall out and start cutting!! Lol, in all seriousness it’s amazing. A cold start definitely rumbles the house, after about 3 minutes it definitely calms down. Sounds like a boat. I mean do you really care about the neighbors? [emoji23]. No drone on the highway when cruising, definitely getting onto the highway it lets its vocals be heard. I only deleted the rear suite case muffler.

I use my air suspension all the time. Load level works great when, well, loading cargo. Or passengers who can't climb in as easily as others.
Sport mode is nice to lower the vehicle at drive up ATMs.
Extra height mode for going through car washes and of course, 4 wheeling!
If you don't think you'll need it, don't worry about it. But it's not all that $$ to repair. Aftermarket parts are considerably less expensive, too.
Push button start/keyless entry, 4 zone climate control, proximity sensors, front and rear heated seats but no Nav? It looks like you got a good deal for $4,800. Congrats.
Thank You Perry01. I believe I did.Looks amazing! I told you the V6 would definitely surprise you! Best of luck with it!
I always felt most Tregs were optioned weird.
Some have the keyless go but no push start
Some have Nav but no sensors. Just outta whack who ever ordered them.

Do it! I’m sure it’ll wake it up sound wise.

I have not scanned it yet. No there is no leak of any kind anywhere. I will take the car to my mechanic to check it and also everything you mentioned. But it runs great. There is no funny noise or anything weird from the engine or anywhere else.Rippin deal. Did you get a chance to scan it. Oil leaks? Common spots are oil filter housing gasket, if this leaks de-carb while you are in there. Oil cooler 0rings, not so easy, engine out of at least lifted up off motor mounts to access. Intake and exhaust camshaft solenoid adjusters, easy fix, right on top, O-rings fail and valve cover gaskets which aren't too difficult. Enjoy the new ride.
