New as far as posting concerned, so salutations, but followed the site for what seems like centuries. As an ears and eyes mechanic the problems I'm presently getting are beyond hearing or seeing. Context: 11/2003 v10 220k kliks, only times the dealer/any garage has seen/worked on it are during warranty and recalls, because it was free or inexpensive, c'est la vie. Now at 20, the wires etc are shredding and some corrosion has set in and some modules/sensors have joined the party. It's been a long and learning friendship/partnership for the treg and I, but being 70 years old has its drawbacks, but I just need to keep it goin for another 10 years: as of 2033 it won't be legal on French roads where I live

The fault according to vcds and fox scanner is:

004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
01598 - Drive Battery Voltage (this dtc has persisted now for months, hence new comp/relay below)
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
ok, it's a six week old battery and the charge at scanning was 12.77 v, with new wabco compressor and relay: now for the intrigue, attached is an official vw wiring diagram showing an S65 fuse of 250a for the v10 2003 on page 9, above A1 second battery and down from SD8 and TV29.
treg. Has anyone found or know where in the sam hell s65 250a fuse is??
By the way, I've got WD and resources for T1 tregs collected over 20 ans, if you need any let me know.

Try this guy under your seat..... it's the only large fuse like that I can think of off the top of my head

Hi, thanks for the response; tried it, it's sd7 but does not match the criteria as it's above TV3 in the sd1 circuit, I'm gonna pull the r/h loom tomorrow and see if it's an in line fuse going to the engine bay 's' fuses where the WD seems to say it should be, but think I'm wrong as it has to be a module or relay with CAN bus telling ECU bad data re A1 voltage. There again I maybe got a duff battery.

Did not think of that! I'll try and follow the WD and see if that goes to the 's' fuse box in the plenum; Great thanks, I'll let ya know how that works out demain.

Good call. Unfotunately it is not the problem fuse in good shape. Found huge corroded mass that is part of the loom from battery fuse box guessing it was the 3 crimped grounds just under the bonnet release. Had to cut it back so far carpet no longer goes down need to get some 8 guage cable to butt in, not sure if it is the problem but when battery connected up can hear the j197 ticking up. Hopefully tomorrow I'll crank her up and see what transpires; I'll let ya know. Thanks for your help, really appreciated

Hi, trying to solve for address 34 and 47; both appeared at same time, been months now. Because of 34 (01598) second bat not fully charging, got no air ride and resevoir at 0, checked all relays and fuses no probs has to be a power prob or module, but no other dtc's present????... only thing keeping from the stops is the residual valves and now the temps are reaching below zero she gonna bottom out. 47 can wait, still have music/radio.

OK... so I'm assuming this is the starter battery?
Can you monitor\log the generator output and the battery voltages? (both if possible)

Address 34 (01598) refers to drive battery; thats the battery under the driver seat which supplies terminal 30 with constant power regardless of ignition state on/off, feeds SC27 with constant power which levels car after shut down and keeps SD13 constantly powered to invoke j403/j197 power if compressor needed to correct angle. This is what started my air ride address 34 probs; the car was parked paralell to high wind 50-60+ kliks for days and the air ride was constantly correcting car to keep level. SC48 is Terminal 15 when power introduced by key or start/stop button which is the fuse that in coordination with SC27/SC48/SD13 corrects and drives j197 while driving. Have not incluided sensors as they are potentiometer that are powered from j197 and only respond to inputs from same. That's my understanding.
Have not changed protocols on vcd only used it to test and apply usb to laptop

So upper limit exceeded means too much voltage to me.
Check that 55 default value is still that in your protocol.
I believe 47 is related to the Amp, so if above value checks out, try accessing it and disconnecting it to validate.

Apparently in VAG/ECU speak "upper limit exceeded" refers to the number of failed plausibility/adaptations allowed before the DTC is set in fault memory =MIL light... game over or I'm done with this would be better. Lower limit exceeded gets really convoluted... as in I'm not gonna even try! =MIL notification
I'll clarify for the 55 protocol setting, but I don't remember changing it, will let the kids deal with 47 as it's normally a mobile disco when they're aboard.

Cheers

Never seen anything like that. What's your source? Very interesting.
If that's the case, have you attempted doing basic settings?

It's a programming term bit like stack overflow, it's an instuction/code to stop the software looping and constantly polling a single address and move on to the next address point in vcd; vas allows deeper analysis on a particular address/dtc... why and where

Cannot access/adapt while there's an ongoing dtc in memory with vcds, whereas the VAG vas system will allow you to bypass or permanently delete/hide dtc's irrespective of repair status;
My neighbours son is a VW analysis tech, but he won't let me anywhere near his computer as he knows I'll find the many hidden data/addresses in the ECU codes... you do know your VW top end is governed.

Exactly, which points to wiring/fuses/shorts or electric glitches. The ECU is immediatley registering a voltage/current (drop) when it tries to initiate the suspension circuit as soon as the dtc is cleared. Unfortunately I cannot see what is happening in the full circuit without turning ignition on as it's connected to terminal 30 (static mode) and terminal 15 (running mode)
Cheers

You can't clear the code if the ignition isn't on as you can't communicate with the controller.

So if you have a fault, you key on, open VCDS, go in controller and clear the fault. Before you do anything else, does the fault come back?

Hi, problem is as soon as key on the ECU goes through its 'boot' sees low v signal and flags fault. When cleared and go to adaption fault is again flagged as vcd is interrogating ECU/address 34 and it sees low voltage signal @ address 34, short?? . Catch22 scenario. Gonna try and trick the system later today with a second battery in paralell to the aux battery as I'm still under the assumption that is the 'drive' battery. Strange discovery with my neighbours son, he's never seen/heard of a 01598 and does not know why a low v signal is appearing @address 34 and not in address 09 : VW/Audi list of dtc's published by bentley does not have a 01598. It stops @ 01588 and starts again at 01600: confused as to where ross-tech/vcd other scan tools are pulling that fault from!?
