I used the 6.24.0 maps update. It loaded fine. but after a few minutes the Nav stopped and asked for activation key. I have the key downloaded. Will put it on an SD card to try. Will let you know

You'll be waiting a while because I have no desire to attempt the update since I'm on the '18 maps which are currently satisfying my needs
My contribution to this experiment will be limited to temporary seeding the files for now.

 

Well it's not an experiment, I think. Maps were prepared carefully by me in exactly the same way as those for Europe (and they work great). I've double checked edited files and compared them with older NAR versions. Everything seems to be in order. There's only ONE difference between older and newer version but I think it's minor.

Of course I can't exclude any mistakes, if so I'll fix them. But I doubt there are any.

I wasn't suggesting that there's anything wrong with what you have supplied.... simply clarifying that I won't be attempting it any time soon as it's not a priority for me. I have actual maintenance and other upkeep that takes priority over my outdated NAV maps that I have barely used.

Well sry guys, there is one mistake there. MapStyles weren't updated to latest version. It means all POI had outdated icons. The new look is way more fresher. I removed the link and will upload fixed version today. For those who downloaded whole maps I'll prepare small fix to update just MapStyles. Sorry, probably I've been tired too much...

@Lysy do you have the instruction guides on how to make the source maps compatible with RNS850?

I've been on the European Touareg forums and noticed the members update their maps through Audi. I assumed if they can convert EU Audi -> EU Touareg then it should be possible to convert NAR Audi -> NAR Touareg. I've downloaded the

These maps are exact conversion from 6.24.0 NAR Audi to VW. The MMI3GP unit and RNS850 are working on exactly the same databases. Only labels of them differs.

The detailed instruction is hard to explain. It's just editing content of the text files and the names of the files and directories. I gave a brief description in here:

Use it ONLY when You've downloaded earlier maps without "fixed" extension in it's name. To upload it make SD just the way You prepare maps, then activate Engineering Mode, choose User Deifned mode, and then just click Next. This procedure should quickly update just MapStyles database. This is how they look in european version:

This is excellent. Thanks! I've downloaded the files but I don't see anything which indicates the naming convention for the respective SD files for Maps and Activation.

The V12 instructions noted to rename them with 7P etc so the system believes they are authentic VW SDs. Is that correct or is that unnecessary with these files?

I've scoured the threads and nothing specific to this 2021-22 update comes up. It's early days so I'm in wait n see mode.

@Lysy - Ok understood. Kudos for clarifying the file naming convention. As for the Activation code - I believe we’re on our own for that, correct? I’ll keep looking. Much appreciated, good sir!

 

If You've previously used an activator there's a chance You won't need one. If not, there's Keldo activator or any other, f.e. this one from V12 maps. Should work. There's a drawback to this. Using an improper activator will activate maps, but also might cause error 03623 in 5F module, during VCDS auto-diagnose it will pop-up. It does absolutely nothing, just is. But there's a cure for that also... FSC fix it's called. If anyone'll be in need, I'll help as well.

You need to copy those files from MEGA link into a SD Card and that's it.

 

I have the v12 activator from the previous update. Seems I'm good. Thx.

 

@Lysy, do you know if this file be used in a 958.1/2 (2011-2018) Porsche Cayenne system? Updates at the dealer are stupid expensive !!

Calculated risk. I had the previous v12 update downloaded and ready to reload if this had failed. Wondering... the POIs in this update look correct to you @Lysy?

 

The icons look exactly the same than they do in EU version. Still wonder what those three coloured cirles are (a cinema?)... The drawback (is / might be) that there's limited use POI as a destination. I mean in EU 6.35.1. Only POI online work as a target. I have no problem with it, just an observation from EU update, not a complaint.

What upload method You chose? Standard one?

 

Standard update following v12 PDF instructions. Took about 20 mins. No activation needed.
Colored circles: I'll click/touch it next time I'm in the treg and let you know. Got me curious too. Not sure re: limited use POI, I can click on any of the icons and get map info/directions for them.

On a related note: We know VW no longer updates NAR RNS850 firmware (K0711 latest), but there would be a way to remap the latest Audi Euro firmware to the NAR as you did with the maps?

 

I'm not with You with the last question; You want to know, if the convertion of the latest NAR firmware from Audi MMI3GP to RNS850 will be possible? The main VW system differs from that in Audi. I wouldn't mess with it as long the old one works. I can compare them, but there's no way to transfer it, I think.

 

Yes, that was the question about converting the firmware from Audi to VW and your answer clarifies things. I'll stick with the latest K0711 NAR firmware. Kudos!

 

The problem with firmwares is that they do work only within specified range of HW version of the RNS components. I think that latest P0825 EU firmware can't be uploaded to any older unit without a trouble. Maybe there's a newer than P0711 firmware somewhere in 2017/2018 NAR Touareg, but It doesn't exactly mean that it'd work with older units. This knowledge is unfortunately reserved only for VW factory employees, I think.

With maps it's different, cause Standard method checks version of all files from Your HDD drive. Only older files are deleted and then newer comes at their place. That's why I don't recommend deleting whole navi partition via Green Menu, just to update the maps. It's pointless and might be sometimes risky.
