VCDS wont connect

2005 R5. RHD.

The message I get is that the USB won't connect.

I read a while ago that all of the module wiring is bound together and if one is shorting all of them won't connect.
The fix is to undo the bundle and remove each module one at a time to see if that's the one causing the problem.

My question is where physically is this bundle?

The ELM 327 won't connect either but it might be broken, it won't connect on my Saab either.

The modules connect via Canbus and some also by a separate and slower protocol called Kline in addition, which are the communication protocols. There is no "bundle" of wire and the modules are distributed throughout the car. But if a module on the Canbus or K line fail in certain ways then you may not be able to connect to any module as certain failures can take down the Canbus network that all the modules communicate on . If you have a genine VCDS then go to the Ross Tech forum for help on the potential problem solutions

It's very possible that this "bundle" is actually the infamous lh side wire cluster under the carpet.
That's already been worked on by an auto electrician a few years ago.
I might take a look.

Soot, you can come and fix the engine in my car for free also, but only if you also pet my dog anytime he asks.
Deal.... what kind of a dog?
I'm a total dog lover just in case you were wondering.
This is who helps me when I have to wrench on something.

All you have to do is make him an offer he can't resist.
So true.... I just can't resist trying to help those who are completely lost and just full of themselves.....
You know Sooty, he can't resist an opportunity to tell people stuff then get all pissed off because they don't answer the question he didn't ask.
Why don't you share those details if you're going to go out of your way to give me that reputation again.... let the group see everything, not just your partial BS perspective.

Why don't you ask for the details you want?

The group can certainly see everything, it's all right here.

All you had to do was remain coherent, remain civil and stay on point.
If any of that is too difficult for you you don't have to "help".

BTW, did you see the picture of my interface that I couldn't possibly have?

#13 ·
I "don't have to" do anything..... help or remain anything....

I did see what you have, and just like I stated, you don't have what I showed you..... but you also don't pay attention to details, so you can't understand.... carry on.

What an exceptionally pathetic way to spend your life.
Next you'll be saying that I tried to plug a usb into a serial port .
We established long ago that I have a usb port and you have a serial port.
I believe if you had any actual information to impart you would have done so by now.

Nope, you just stayed in it long enough to find something to crap about.

(not to mention, that unlike your FANCY USB port, mine works)

And you still don't know what's wrong with it.
I knew it would be a waste of time getting you involved, you'd supply no information and crap on page after page.
But I could see you were busting and I thought I'd give you a chance.

And you still don't know what's wrong with it.
Yeah... that's it....
But I could see you were busting and I thought I'd give you a chance.
I don't know that I'll ever be able to thank you for the opportunity.... but maybe I'll try at some point......

In the meantime, focus and read the last thing I said above in #27....
I'll wait, since I realize that you struggle with simple instructions. ⏳

#31 ·
Negative..... I'm saying the problem lies with you not being able to read.... ;)
Just like you couldn't read that one interface was one kind of connection, and that you DO NOT have the same dongle as me due to that very specific difference between the two.

So, I'll wait again, until you tell me what I said at the end of #27 above, and if you understand that or not.... I have all day.

Your move.

Maybe SaVageSoot is implying that the problem is not with the car but rather with the VCDS cable and the USB port of the laptop. Have you done the initial setup with the VCDS cable?

And have you been able to actually connect to any VW car with the same VCDS cable+laptop combo? That would verify that the cable+laptop is not the issue.

#39 ·
I already went through that with him, he said that wasn't it.
He's playing a childish game of I know something you don't know.

The initial set-up is the problem, it doesn't connect.
I'm going to check the fuse and relay and power output on the port when I get the car.

I don't know anybody with a VAG car around here to test the interface on.

This is the first time I've tried to use this laptop with the VCDS and it's the only Windows device I have with a working battery.
I used to use a nifty 12 inch tablet but it needs work.

I think you also may be pushing the site rules with your continued attacks even if they are in response to others attacks in your opinion. VCDS is a very reliable system.. Failures to connect are almost always a PC configuration problem or a ODB port problem. You need to test both possibilties. The Ross tech forum will give you the assistance needed to diagnose the problem

#42 ·
Those with enough brain cells already know what's what.... Until you respond regarding what I've asked over and over, I will not hold your hand any further.

Here's another hint.... You don't need a VAG vehicle to test out the interface or the USB port.... ;)

#45 ·
Wait a minute. In your other thread where you had issues with black smoke, you swore up and down there were no codes in VAGCOM while diagnosing......

#46 ·
So I read this thread, and sadly had to read the same individuals drag down yet another one, and no one asked any pertinent questions about the OP's cable. So I will.
@Flash635 is your VCDS cable a genuine one from Ross-Tech?
If so did you update the software to the latest version?
If so did you also update the firmware of the cable itself and then test it in the options section?

Insanely important that the answers are all "yes" here.
