My auxiliary heater in my 2006 V10 attempted to turn on a couple of times this past winter. Smoked a bunch but wouldn't light and shut itself down after several attempts at lighting. In VCDS the codes say failure to ignite and that it is now locked.

I've done the research and want to attempt to troubleshoot it and save some bucks. I believe the problem is probably with the glow plug or maybe the air source is blocked. My problem is if I can't unlock and turn it on in test mode with VCDS I will have to take it to the stealer anyway. Can't find anything on the Ross-tech faq about this. The auxiliary heater section of the faq is blank. Has anyone had any experience with coding or adaptations on the auxiliary heater controller?

Don't mess with the coding. Several have tried in conjunction with turning this unit into a proper AUX heat source and have locked in a code that they can't change. However, you can remove the lock on your unit with a VAG-COM.

Possible Solutions
When found in Aux Heater module of VW Touareg (7L), unlock heater module by saving a 1 in Adaptation Channel 003, then clear fault codes.

Much appreciated! I guess I should have searched on the actual fault code number instead of a keyword. Still need to figure out how to put it in a test mode so I can see if my repair worked.

I will take pictures and post how the repair went, thanks again!
