Hi All

Name's Alan and new to this site and to the Touareg. Have aquired, with much glee a 2008 R50. Just Lurv it. Plan is to tow a Traveller Caravan around Oz for a year or so and to make the trip so much more enjoyable have installed a Kurfatec TV in motion kit and a Aspire DBV tv tuner. (cant miss the footy or the cricket - while the missus is driving of course!!:) but I have hit a snag. In halting english the manual says I have to change a setting in the Can Bus thingy. I have to change address 19 - Byte 4 to Bit 4 so need some VAGCOM help. Any one close to Melb with this tool???

Regards
Al

Hi Alan and welcome to ClubTouareg!
Sounds like an incredible vehicle-caravan combo and your plans sound great too...
My experience with VAG-COM is that I find a local non-dealer mechanic who specialises in VW/AUDI and visit him, with a $50 note in hand and a bit of spare time to let him fiddle around connecting it up with the right cable etc. He will probably tell you that he doesn't think what you are asking will work, but with a bit of encouragement will make the change and be suitably surprised that this software he has can do things other than diagnose issues with the vehicle.
That is how I got my lane-changing blinker to 5 blinks, and got my paddle shifters turned on when I installed them.
Sorry I don't know who in Melbourne can do it, maybe someone else can...

cheers,

..Neil

Thanks for the advice Moonan. Sounds like a plan. I notice on your signature tag that you have the DP chips.

I was looking at that as well even though I'm not too sure why I want 300HP or need the 965NM of torque other than I do cause I can :) I'm a baby boomer with a generation Y attitude.

How have you found the chip(s) and would you recommend them to others?

greedy bu88er!

DP chip is great on the R5, (half of your engine) for slightly more obvious reasons...
The extra power & torque are real, but I think the reported fuel savings are largely illusory. The only (slight) negative is that it plays hell with the accuracy of the fuel calcs on the MFI - the size of the pulses of fuel are not what they were...

There's a bloke in Collingwood who may be ale to help...give me a day or so and I will ask my service man where he is....they took my 06 TDi there when I had a problem with the ESP sensor and fixed it. Will try and get his address or phone no: for you.

Hi Al, welcome aboard. I'd be interested in getting a couple of things Vag'd on my R50 too. The 5 blink land change is one I've been after for a while. There is a list on the board here of all the VAG settings for things to get done. Worth a looksee if there is anything you may find handy. Some may not be applicable for our model though. Eg, the adaptive Xenons have a different composition of bulbs than the older non-adaptive Xenons, so some settings to turn on all 6 lights (lows and flash and high's) may not apply.

Let me know if you're interested in arranging a common appt with the Vagcom bloke.

Cheers

Hi Alant.......I am also a new member.......and named Alan.......and live in Melb.......
I am interested in the 5 blink lane change. Can we get more detail on that..... Is it an operator programmable item, or must we have a technician??
I too have fitted a mobile TV/DVD player to mine, and you probably already know that the digi TV has reception probs on the move......& pretty much anywhere outta the urban jungle. So when I took my Treg to Broome (across the Tanami) & back via Perth we did 14,000kms without watching much TV anywhere. DVD was OK tho....
I have also had mine 'chipped' by Oettenger......a costly $2400 and not a huge difference in power.....in fact it's barely noticable. I wouldn't advise it for the V6 engine.

"AM has great reception".........NO WAY...!!!!!! What's the secret? Mine is poor, and badly affected by train lines, etc.
Does the steering wheel knob that changes radio stations work?

Update on AVIC. After a day now VOL controls only working intermittently. AM reception better than VW radio but don't know about range which the VW radio was briliant. Not affected by power lines and a lot better in the CBD. The radio guys rekon the biggest problem with all european stuff is they keep upgrading CANBUS even during models. Will proberbly hop into soon and VOL controls will work.
