I know its a long shot, but anyone have one for sale? I was about to pull the trigger on a new one, but the past week has seen some sewage problems in my basement that has hurt my play money...

PM me if you are interested in selling. Thanks.

You should know up front that there's no such thing as buying a used VCDS cable and expecting it to work straightaway. Ross-Tech requires new users to pay a $99 "registration fee". What it really amounts to is a hardware transfer charge. Also, there are several versions of the thing floating around in cyber-space, the most current ones I believe should be v10.6 or later

I too suggest you simply buy a new one and be done with it.

Not true. You only have to pay the $99 fee if you want future upgrades and support. It is right on their website that you can buy a used cable and download the software for free and use it. I also have this in an email from them.

Not true, only need to register it if you need support. Upgrades be it firmware or software updates happen no matter who the owner is. Ask me how I know this... :)

Well, that's not quite the whole story. Depending upon which used unit is actually purchased - and what age vehicle(s) it's going to be used on - subsequent investment may be contingent upon more than simple "support & upgrades".

3.10 Can I sell my VCDS System to someone else?
You can sell the Interface, but PC-based activations and support are not transferable.
If you have a "dumb" interface for VCDS-Lite and the purchaser wants the full-function version, he will have to register as a new user for $99.
All of our Current Interfaces act as "dongles" for VCDS, so the software should be fully functional on any PC that meets our requirements. However, we only provide support to the original owner. If you sell your interface to a third party and that person wants to be a "registered user" (eligible for product support and upgrades), he will have to register with us for $99 here.

I know not all buyers are created equal. But I'd personally never buy a piece of technology - new or used - without expecting to update/upgrade it at some point in time. Especially if it turns out to be one of the older (pre-v10.6) cables.

So even if it's the current HEX+CAN type unit - and it's not reduced in price by more than $99 - I'll stick by my recommendation to buy new.

Well mine has been working just fine and I have received all software and firmware updates for it since I have owned it. I have yet to need support on it and if need be I will take care of it then. I could not pass up the deal I got on it when I bought it. It belonged to a former Treg owner and he Ebayed it when he got rid of his Treg and I am now the new owner. Has worked great with no issues what so ever.
