Yesterday I unbolted my exhaust. Took off clamp after the secondary cats. Took it for a test drive. Super loud!!! Loved it. Put it back after a couple of hours. After i was done with the giggles ; )

cell video

Here is a youtube link for a short video i shot of it. From my phone. Bad video but it sounds good.

Hahaha dude that sounds pretty awsome. I also have an 04 v8, was thinking of straight piping it myself as well.
Cool....sounds like Steve McQueens Mustang in Bullitt

Rick
is anything else changed other than the straight pipes? i put magnaflows on the back and it only gave it a slight change in sound, wanting still little louder and was reading about removing secondary cats. sounds nice
Sounds very nice.

Removing the secondary cats will make it sound a lot louder.
ColumbusTouareg, it is completely stock. Just unbolted. I was considring your setup but feared not much of a difference. Removing the secondary cats will definitely help take it up a notch. I had a quote done a local shop for a pair of deletes for $150.
Use Magnflow part-number 11226 for your new rear mufflers and you will very much notice a difference!! I will also be deleting my secondary cats this fall when I feel lik dropping the car off with my muffler guy again.

Those are the mufflers i had installed and honestly barely has much more noise from the stock. I think I'm going to remove the cat's some time in the near future as well. Just take it to the customer muffler guys again and have them put in new straight pipes.
I must be the only person that thinks thats sounds awful.
Ahhh love this. I used to do this to mine about every 2 months. Left it unbolted for about a week or so, or until i i got sick of it/get pulled over. I love the sound and get so many compliments. Oh wait, i mean complaints.

One thing to watch out for though--- if you decide to do it for longer than a couple of hours----I take it off the exact way you did, and it melted the fiberglass around the gas tank(at least i think thats what it is). The drivers side pipe aims directly there.
It didn't do any structural damage, strictly cosmetic. Thank god.
Occasionally I must admit, I'm upset my tdi doesn't have some growling (maybe in this case, roaring) exhaust. But I also have to imagine that would get annoying after a while, but hey, maybe not right? :)
Thanks for the heads up ram5284!! I did not experience any melting. I would like to remove the muffler and put pipes straight out the back similar to a couple of v10s i've seen.
Like BigMM24's setup:

I realize having unbolted after cats took out the H pipe...I think and hope that doing this would help to even tone and maybe quiet things up a tad.

I love the sound! A bit much for hauling the family around though. They don't share my feelings. I have to take the Corvette out privately for that thrill...

Anybody else have an annoying noise coming from the exhaust (I think)? A slight "rap" when you rev. I'm hoping an exhaust mod will get rid of it.
