I found out what the problems is -- I took my Treg to a exhaust shop and the problem is in the OEM muffler. I had them replace the rear muffler with a dual Flowmaster exhaust system and WHAMMO it sounds great. I also had them remove the 2 front catalytic converters and straight pipe to the Flowmasters. Picked up major horsepower (not sure how much) and sounds really sweet with no hum or resonance. And for half of the price the Fabspeed set is for sale now on Treg Central. Trick is metric pipe sizing. VW uses a funky size not standard in US so I had them blow it up to 3" -- better air flow anyways. Since the oxygen sensor is in front of the second set of catalytic converters (that I removed) the Treg is smog legal in Cali.

Yo,

I am pretty sure this has already been figured out. Only problem is I am lazy and never got around to implementing the fix so I don't remember EXACTLY what it is. With that said I think it is the heat shield around the exhaust. I believe the fix was to slightly bend the corner of the heat shield away from the exhaust. Had something to do with the heat shield having too much play and slapping against the exhaust under heavy acceleration. BTW I was positive that this had been resolved until I saw the post from Spockcat. He lives on these board so now I'm starting to think I had a dream about the fix. :)

Peace,

WOW 118K that's AWESOME! :clapclap: I loved my Touareg while I had it. When I turned it in the transmission had failed :anger: think it had 50K on the odometer. Ever had any trans problems? Anyway, never did correct this issue. If I still had the T-Reg I would put an Electronic Cutout on it. I have them on my Pontiac G8 GT and the sound is amazing!!! Goes from stock to sounding like its running on angry Lions at the push of a button.

I have an '05 V8 and have that same noise on heavy acceleration..must be normal, done it since new..I have 118K no change for better or worse..sounds kinda' cool.

106K...I have the sound...it sounds like the valves are going to come out of the tips. Some people think its unique and cool, others think something is broken for sure....try to live with it as when you hear that sound you are probably gettin 2 miles per gallon.

are you referring to the "tinny" noise that it makes? almost sounds like a muscle car's exhaust? I usually hear mine about 4k-redline. mine's an '05.

I'd heard there were flappers in the exhaust somewhere, not sure on truth. but, that bend the tips make after exiting the muffler will probably make the exhaust more raspy as well.

my C5 A6 4.2 stock exhaust was the same way.
